How to dodge moonlight butterfly spears?

The only reason i ams till stuck on this boss is because of this attack. I just cant dodge it. IT feels like the spears follow you, and change direction depending on how you move. Even with 10 estus these spears are what withers me down and ultimatley cause me to losse. SO i stay away from the butterfly. To avoid the attacks more easily. Problem is that once it lands i can only get in 2 or 3 attacks and barley deal dammage. So eventualy it simple withers me down until i am out of estus and dies.

I have depleted all nearby ways to obtain humanity souls. I guees il farm souls and buy it from that woma in the sewers. Anyone got a tips how to dodge the spears though?

What kind of shield are you using? Round shields are good for magic defense and are easy to obtain. Personally I just run to the side blocking and roll when it launches the first barrage.

Cant remember the name. But they are small and have 50% resistance. They sitll dont really help since i still slowly get shut down.

if you can't dodge it, try with high magic resistance equipment & shield

I can probably dodge it if i just understood how it worked. Dark sousl wiki does not explain the way it works.

Try using Pyromancy Flame or any bows or crossbows you have. Moonlight Butterfly certainly is very tough with a melee-only build.

then go grab the crest shield so that you can block that specific attack, if you can't dodge it (probably want to practice it more? it's not that hard once you get it); plus, if you can barely do damage when the butterfly lands, you should upgrade your weapon

Warrior's round shield is 85% magic resist and is sold by the undead merchant. There's also one as loot in the graveyard. Also if your weapon is not at least +5 then get on that first.

warrior's is 65, not 85, need to upgrade it to make it with around 85% magic res

My mistake, but that's still above average for early game equipment.

My scimitar is uppgraded to +5. But i will try to farm souls then buy some arrows. Or just farm souls, buy humanity and summon a player or the witch beatrice.

Erm whats exactly to explain ? You press the button+ direction, and then you'll roll. During the roll there is a certain timeframe where you cant be hit, to dodge stuff that couldn't be avoided just by getting out of the way.

The idea is to dodge when the projectiles are about to hit, - preferably in the opposite direction to the way you've been sidestepping while the butterfly is preparing and releasing the attack.

If you're not fast rolling I'd reccomend removing some armor until you can do so, - you'll travel further and can spam rolls quicker for more chances of catching the attacks on your i-frames.

I think my method works, I tried it with a sl 4 warrior yesterday and was successful. Run one way and when the first barrage hits (or misses) you roll the same way. If it's the haevy blast just time the roll correctly. Also if he goes on the door side you can get cover behind the door. This fight is somewhat odd in that mid roll is good because you stay behind the low wall for longer.

I meant how the spear attacked itself works.
