And you want the extra health, since co-op makes enemy AI go all weird and lag can catch you as well, so you might take a few more hits than you're used to, while not having control of estus. You'll either want enough faith to cast heal, or enough health that you don't have to be maxed to be willing to charge in in defense of the host (humanity works as well, but it's annoying to farm and takes a long time to use). Some hosts are aware anough to heal responsibly, but in general you don't want them to have to worry about you.
The claymore is a solid recommendation. Not max damage possible at level 30, but it still hits like a truck and leaves you levels to spare for survivability. I use a flamberge on my co-op build, but that's just because it matches my sunlight maggot, it's not really the most practical weapon.
