Should I max out Halberd ?
Currently the Halberd is my favorite weapon hands down (pokes, nice damage, overhead smash, heavy spin attack). I have several other weapons with me including the Great DemonAxe that dropped from the Taurus Demon early in the game but don't feel like quipping it as my STR is only 32, I can only 2H it as I am currently raising my VIT and END. The halberd is +5 currently. It is also the only weapon that I have upgraded. Should I upgrade it to elemental or proceed with normal. When do I start upgrading to elemental weapons ? My progress so far in the game has been to the point where I rang both the bells and currently fighting through Sen's fortress.

You should only upgrade your weapon to elemental types only if your build do not benefit from the scaling that you get from the weapon.Examples like you have a pure faith build and doesn't level up your dex and strength a lot then you can benefit from the damage bonus you get from divine enchanted weapon as it scales with faith and scales less with strength or dex.The same can be said with mages or sorcerors. They get more damage from enchanted weapons that scales with Intelligence. If you're doing a melee build then you definitely have to upgrade it till +15(pure physical damage only)the plus is you can buff your weapon unlike the elemental ones.Elemental weapons sometimes(or almost always)do less damage than non elemental weapons because of the split damage(the elemental and physical damage of the elemental weapon)For your weapon of choice,I would say choose which one you like depending on your build. For quality build, yiu can use weapons with C scalings in Dex and strength or any weapons with the same scaling in dex and strength. For dex only character, choose a weapon that has a good dex scaling and yet scales terribly with strength(strength doesn't matter a lot on a dex weapon)For strength character, use the same formula as the dex character

That was really helpful, thanks a lot. I shall push on with the upgrades for my Halberd. I will need lots of L.titanite shard now. Gotta work on it. I am playing a Knight class, pure melee build.

Thanks for being sarcastic, wasting your time and being utterly useless.

The skeleton blacksmith at the bottom of the catacombs is where you can get fire upgrades. Large fire and chaos embers are in Demon Ruins.
You can get lightning upgrades in Anor Londo at the giant blacksmith, no additionnal ember required. He also sells Large shards, should you need some.
Fire/chaos/lightning remove any stat scaling, so it's mostly a decent option for low str/dex builds.
New Londo's blacksmith will upgrade to the magic and enchanted paths, but you'll need the Duke's Archive large magic ember. Magic weapons will scale with int, recommended for sorcerer builds.
Divine upgrades work the same way (large divine ember is in the Tomb of the Giants) and will provide a fth scaling. You can get a +5 divine upgrade fairly early at the undead parish blacksmith.
He will also be able to upgrade blades to +10 using the large ember (Depth, chest near the first butcher) then +15 using the very large ember (New Londo, after draining the water). +15 weapons will retain their stat scaling and can be buffed, it's a good option to use with high str or dex builds.

Hmm, thanks for the tips. I will keep these in mind, so far I met Undead parish blacksmith and handed him my embers. I also met the New Londo smith. Looks like I have a long way to go.

I had the same doubts when I started playing the game. There are so many weapons, and so many paths, that it will make you think you can only choose 1 or 2 and wont have time to make changes later, or maybe you will regret wasting soul points. The truth is that later in the game, you will be able to get all kinds of shards and soul points that it will make you experiment more. My advice would be that whatever is working for you, keep doing it. If you think a weapon is getting kind of slow or not doing enough damage, you can always try using buffs or do whatever you can to improve that damage. I used a halberd too, and upgraded it through the raw path. Its the more easy path to use at the beginnings of the game. Then later I switched weapons, started using elemental paths, and it all came naturally. I wouldnt advice to upgrade weapons through the magic, enchanted, occult, chaos, and even +15 regular path. So far Ive been using certain enemy weapons (drops) that cant be upgraded normally. You need special titanite for them and can only go through one path. Damage is pretty good too.
Again, dont stress over it. Whatever has been working before, keep doing it until it doesnt anymore.

If you're still on Sen Fortress, you already found/have access to the large ember (Depths entrance), so you could upgrade your halberd to +10 already, to make the area easier.

Those upgrades are good given the right build. +15 blades with an high scaling usually are the best end-game choice.

True, while all that's required to win the game is the drake sword anyway.

Thats true, but for what the op is saying I can imply he still doesnt know how to incorporate scaling into his gameplay. When your SL is low scaling doesnt matter that much. Its not until you get stats around 30 where you start getting the benefits from them.

Right. Personnally, it's only when completing AL that I started to look into the scaling mechanics on the first playtrough.

Hmm well when it comes to scaling the only weapon that I have with good scaling is my Demon greataxe (S scaling in STR). But I dont use it. Its just too slow and lacks range to hit most targets efficiently.

Thanks, will work on that. Currently my Halberd is +8. So far its dealing nice damage on the reptile humanoid enemies.
