Amen to that. The Great Hollow for me is kind of like the entrance to Blighttown from the Depths: I did it once just for the sake of doing it once, and that's about all I want to do with it. If you want to go in the Great Hollow you should definitely get the Lordvessel first so you can just warp the hell out of there once you're done.
It sounds like you're playing at 60 fps. The terrain physics get really glitchy when the framerate is unlocked to 60 fps. The game was not designed to be played at higher than 30 fps. Honestly, there are too many glitches to play with framerate unlocked, at least for your first playthrough anyway.
Hell yes I'm a casul. Not gonna risk randomly dying and having to do all that nonsense again. lol
I am using DSfix as im playing on a laptop. Its not running at 60 but if i return the framerate to being locked at 30 my game lags loads. So i have a choice of either iffy glitches or a terrible framerate.
OP: Just go left, you can actually go through the void without falling down. Look for a YT video if needed.
Yes, I know that is a bad spot in the unmodified game. I'm sure we've all experienced it. What I'm pointing out is that unlocking framerate to 60 fps drastically exacerbates this problem. There are several places like this in the game. I already explained that playing with the 60 fps unlock causes problems with terrain physics and terrain collision detection.
@LOLCAT: Go to that spot in the Great Hollow and compare the difference between locked and unlocked fps and then tell me I'm wrong. Here is[i.imgur.com] another spot to exemplify my argument (I'm sure you know where this is, I won't describe it because spoilers). You should have been more familiar with this issue before accusing me of being disingenuous.
Btw as a tangent, some people say that unlocking the framerate through DSFix but leaving it capped at 30 provides a nice compromise for them. So if you're having trouble with both unlocked 60 and locked 30 fps, maybe give that a try.
I can Steam broadcast to you to show you the details if you want. Everyone else is invited too.
I've just been experimenting with that bad spot in the terrain in the Great Hollow, and I can describe what does work and what doesn't work fairly well now.
-There's a couple sweet spots that you need to begin your roll from, and that you need to aim for to get over the hump.
-Equip weight makes a difference. Fast roll seems to get you over the hump more effectively.
-Flip ring is very helpful.
-At 30 fps I can roll over the hump on at least 50% of my attempts.
-At 60 fps (58 fps for me) I only succeed at maybe 10% of my attempts at rolling over the hump.
-There's a foolproof route to get past it by just walking. I'll have to show you.
