Is there a known formula for damage calculation?
Just wondering so I can figure out whether or not something resists an element

That's... vague. What exactly do you want to know?

the formula is pretty much:

Total damage = crit/counter/gracing modifiers * (damage type 1 * % reduction defense type 1 + damage type 2 * % reduction defense type 2)

you are welcome. Good work was done here today.

attack - defense = damage

BUT

What if the attack is a unstoppable force and the defense is a immovable object?

It's actually far more complicated than that. I can't find the wiki page anymore though.
