How do I get past the Hellkite Dragon? (The red one)

I've just rung the first bell after fighting the Bell Gargoyales, and now I'm stuck. I've read that there's multiple ways to go, but I don't have a Master Key, so now I've read that I can go over to the bridge where Hellkite Dragon is and go to Lower Undead Burg.

Problem is, I'm having an extremely frustrating time trying to kill this thing. I have the Drake Sword (I know it's horrible I shouldn't use it blah blah) and have attempted to kill it. I've used the bow to kill it, and none of it is helping. His AI is relentless, and I can never tell when he'll jump to the other side of the bridge, when he's about to blast fire, etc..

Is it possible to run past this thing? If not, what strategies are there to kill it?

If you want to skip him, wait till him goes down the bridge and run past him like a boss.
If you want to kill him, man the ♥♥♥♥ up and learn his attack patterns, staying by the right side of the bridge will reduce the damage taken from his fire breath

You don't have to kill it right now. You can skip him either by running as the others have said or just use the ladder under him to get back to the start of Undead Burg and continue through to get to the door leading to Lower Undead Burg.

wait the entrance to the lower undead burg is right near Solair right? so why would you want to kill the hellkite? go through the path where you fought the taurus demon before and keep on going until you get to see a closed door near the bridge

Thanks for the help guys! I'm on the right track now, but also I noticed that when skipping the Hellkite Dragon, after a couple bonfire sittings, it'll actually come BACK. It definetly scared the hell out of me but now I know that I should watch out for it.
