Is it wrong/lame to summon?
So I've just got to the 3rd boss, the CAPRA DEMON. Before i tried it I decided to put my summon sign down so that I could see how the boss plays out without getting killed myself instantly.

So Me and another phantom joined our summoner and beat the boss in about one and a half mins.

I then decided to accept a phantom in to my game world and I myself beat the boss in about 2 mins.

I really love this game and find it extremly challanging but the whole summoning seems alittle to easy and lame.

Just wondered what people who have finshed the game think the most rewarding way to play the game is? Or does the game get even harder even with the summoning aspect?

Cheers Snailturkey.

Later in the game there´ll be a boss fight in which you will have a hard time without a phantom to help.

The bosses gain some health when you co-op them, but it isn't really lame to summon, it's in the game so use it. however, you will feel a sense of accomplishment doing them solo. Co-oping is cool, and fun, makes the game quite a bit easier but far from lame.

Sumoning is intended to help you on harder bosses or to learn how sumoning works, respectively O&S and Belfry Gargoyles.

It isnt exploiting the game, its helping the sumoned players(souls) and you(progression)

Nothing realy wrong with that, from my point of view.

There's nothing wrong with it, though I just prefer to solo everything. Summoning is just kinda easymode.

Capra Demon is fair for summons I'd say, as getting past the dogs can be mostly luck based. And it's a single player game, do what makes your playthrough the most enjoyable really

Depends, sometimes it is much harder. I remember when i tried to do quelag with summons - it was much harder than solo, maybe i shouldn't have tried to save my phantom fellows with estus all the time.

Four Kings are also harder with summons, especially on NG+.

Game is mostly designed for single player experience, yes, summoning is there, but not as a means to carry other players or in a sense, cooperative play. It's just there to obtain help so that players won't be "stuck".
Having players "stuck" pretty much kills the game experience, I assume devs just put that there as a "last resort" type of thing to allow progression.

The whole game design isn't exactly designed for coop, unlike MMOs where games is designed to accomodate many people as big as raids. Because of this, much of the challange, is pretty trivial if you summon people in DS.
Otherwise, we'd be seeing more bosses like O&S, gargoyles, or mechanics like MMOs where there are adds/lesser mobs = divide and conquer tactics where one phantom/host aggroes the adds, and the other phantom/host kills the boss, and another phantom/host uses miracles to heal.

Summoning is pretty much = easy mode.

It's not wrong, it's just other players hand holding you or you hand holding others. For many people, this robs the player from the experience they're meant to have. I.E. the frustration of dealing with the boss, or learning tactics to be better and then beating the boss etc.

Soloing is more satisfying but who gives a ♥♥♥♥ lol, if you're having fun keep doing it I summoned a lot in demons souls but barley any in dark souls and both were fun.

If you summon random signs, you're likely to get well equipped phantoms visiting. Really, how lame is it when you're summoning someone for O&S only to have them fall in the first min? When you're getting pounded over and over by a boss, that humanity gets kinda precious. Your phantom will likely be able to clear the knight and Havel all on his own. But that doesn't mean the mechanic is any problem. If you and a buddy start out the game as deprived and co-op your way through, it's not easy mode. It's co-op. Co-op's kinda fun.

I went through the whole game the first time without summoning anyone (nor any NPC). It's up to you to decide what you feel is most rewarding.

They had a good idea of giving the bosses 50% more health per phantom you bring with you but it's not really enough for it not to be easy mode. It's supposed to be easier with phantoms anyways and as people have said it's there to help you if you can't beat a boss. In DS2 they've improved on that and made it harder in that you can still summon after you beat the boss and defeating the boss doesn't send the phantoms back and not only do the bosses get more health but also more armor and resistance per phantom.

Nothing wrong with summoning as long as you're prepared to have my +whatever claymore rammed through your back :D.

Or if you're offline in which case whatever.

Summoning is part of the game so try and do the bosses solo and if your having a hard time summon someone to help, Go for the golden summon signs ;-) (Praise The Sun!)
