Don't you wish there were elves?
So while in Ash Lake for some reason it reminds me of just Elves, and makes me wonder. WHY NO ELVES??? They could go hollow too =(...

Because Elves are typically happy and merry. At least in Tolkien, they are. And, you know, Dark Souls isn't

Yeah I'm not feeling Elves would fit into the world very well.. It's fantasy, sure.. But it's not ~That~ kind of fantasy.

I'm sure he was refering to Santa's elves. (not subtly trying to point out there are different interpretations of elves, nope not doing that)

One of the reasons I like this "fantasy" game is because there are no Elves, Dwarves, and all of that. I'm not into the Tolkien type of setting...it's gross.

Pretty sure DS2 is gonna have dwarf like enemies. Also Elves don't have to be tolkien esque look at witcher elves and warhammer elves. Both are pretty grimdark.

I agree elves can be dark and made to be fitting to the Dark Souls universe. But the way it is now it wouldn't make sense to add a race of elves. And I don't think it would add anything to the game/story if they had made it that way in the first place.

It is slightly surprising since the Japanese love Elves. You find either them or Catgirls in most of their fantasy stuff lol.

But that's just it. The developers of this wanted that grittier dark fantasy. So they left the Elf, and Catgirl fanservice at the door, and just gave us Knights an Monsters. Though looking at Ciaran I think it's clear that old giant race of Anor Londo were sort of the High Elf type race. I got the impression anyway that they lived a long time. But by the time of Dark Souls they are almost extinct, and their flames fading from the world.

Because From knew that if all else failed, that would be enough to make you shed those tears.

I'd say elves would work quite well in DS lore.
Elves, dwarves are pretty much up in most western/european lore/fantasy genres which dark souls's art direction seems to go about.

I just hope the art direction remains that way if they wish to include elves in order to enhance their lore or story direction, lotsa ♥♥♥ devs seem to go for the catgirl, pretty faces, final fantasy colorful type of art direction.
If they do indclude elves, i hope it would be darker or atleast similar to how elves are portrayed in the witcher series, or to some extent skyrim's snow and dark elves

For cosplay puroses:
I kinda felt that Velka was some sort of "dark elf". A slender physique with pointy ears doning the black set and the rapier. Think of black firebombs, target shield, along with rapiers, black magic etc.
Ash lake seemed like a place for those "purist elves". Think like snow elves, paladin set would be ideal + faith magic.
While Darkroot seemed like for those "nature elves". Think of those hunters like Legolas.

I agree Ash Lake always had an elvish feel to it. Dark verisons of elves would be sick, like you said, rapier weilding. Maybe they are trying to prevent themselves from going hollow and kill others for their humanity/souls? Could of put an area in the game where they inhabit.

The backstory of Gwyn's knight's are pretty elvish, and they're taller than humans (as elves are in fantasy, though actually in mythology they are much smaller anf fairy-like :D) and they are supposed to be of the people before humans, like they are in several fantasy settings. So they are kiind of the "Elves" of Dark Souls. :D

Elves = Nature.
and... nature doesnt fit in with the whole "Demons vs. Knights, Light vs. Dark' theme...
im not sure about you Liberty, but elves just dont seem to fit in with the atmosphere of dark souls xP having them in the game would(at least for me) make the game feel awkward.
