Dragon disappeared?

Like the title says, he's gone! I didn't kill him, only thing I did was light and rest at the bonfire below him in the castle. I tried to kill him a few times but I didn't succeed.
One other thing: I've got the dragon sword of his tail, but I don't think it has something to do with is disappearance.

The bonfire you rested at, was it behind the Drake or under the bridge? By what you said I think you mean the one behind him. If you rest at the bonfire behind him he will fly away but will return eventually.

Follow Cabbage instructions, he's right
If he doesn't returns, restart the game or make a loading screen happen, that worked for me.

Run to the otherside of the bridge, back to where you met Solaire, and the Hellkite Dragon will return.

Alternately, run to the staircase mid-bridge and rest at the bonfire in the Undead Burg.

This son-of-a-bird returns if you try to run the bridge back. Before trying better equip anti-fire gear :P
