it also sucks in DS2 tho so ye its just as (NOT)"OP" as in DS2.
Before they nerf it, it's pretty op man :)) (DS2)
This, and the avelyn has no scaling whatsoever. If you made it divine or occult, you'd split the damage into physical and sorcery, which cripples it entirely, as you get no scaling bonus anyways.
Lighting +5 with lightning bolts is better than anything else.
What're you talking about? In Dark Souls 2, the avelyn is and was (both pre- and post nerf) the best ranged weapon in the game.
In Dark Souls it's a lot better balanced. Higher damage than a bow, shoots faster, but has a long reload time, and unlike in Dark Souls 2, it doesn't follow the enemy while you shoot.
It's an incredibly good weapon for punishing pyromancy, or attacks that slows the enemy down too much.
The reason it is overpowered in Dark Souls 2, is that it makes the opponent unable to attack you while you shoot, as the avelyn automatically targets them.

Only as a mundane. which is why they only nerfed mundane.
and in DS its utterly useless.
In ds II its only useful as a mundane on a really high lvl charecter, which doesnt matter much due to soul memory dictating Multiplayer instead of SL. - which is crap so it sucks.
True, a dual avelyn in ds2 will kill you in 1 hit. Alright thanks for the help guys. Lightning avelyn it is. I know it's not a good pvp weapon, but it so freeking cool :)
