Is that one attack from Manus supposed to ignore the silver pendant?

The silver pendant blocks Manus's magic attacks, except for the one where he brings dark orbs in from the edge of the arena. Other magic attacks from him I can block fine with the silver pendant, but not that particular attack. The shadow orbs pierce as though nothing was in their way.

Is this normal?

EDIT: I finally beat that ♥♥♥♥♥♥. I would up just healing whenever possible and tanking that stupid attack.

every single manus attack is avoidable without the pendant. enjoy.

Maybe you are timing it wrong?
The only part of the animation that protects you is when the aura/orbe/something explodes around you.

for clarity:

when he does the rain down magic attack, roll away.

when he does the other attack, run towards him.

neither attack will hit you. no silver pendant needed.

run right at him. the attack sends dark stuff towards him, but it won't hit him, or you.

I won't have time to try it until this evening, and that's assuming I even have enough energy left for Dark Souls. What's probably going to happen is that I get obssessed with the pendant as soon as I see a telegraph for dark magic, and then not run inwards soon enough.

its really not that hard. the dark magic stops when it reaches his hit box. for the rain you have to roll away from him 4 times then it stops.

the pendant was actually more trouble for me than it was useful, aside from what has been suggested, if you panic enough to not approach him as he is casting any magic: when he uses that particular magic attack as you're facing him, turn 180 degrees with your shield up and wait for the orbs to hit you. you will receive relatively small damage if your shield is a least bit decent

the attack I get hit by most is the one where fireballs come out of his hand and shoot straight at you

He used the closing in attack, and I was too far away to make it to him for safety.

I tried hugging him in my next attempt to easily protect myself from the closing in attack, and he insta killed me with the scattershot attack before I could silver pendant.

You definitely don't have to hug him, just make sure not to stay far away. When he does the attack where it closes in, just sprint and jump once you're close enough to get next to him. The shotgun/scatter attack is rather hard to avoid completely, but just try to strafe during the entire fight and roll a couple of times when he does the attack. I almost always get hit by at least one bead, but it never does much damage.

As said earlier, you could just block the attack that closes in. But then again, you shouldn't be standing too far away. Just make sure to be close enough to where you can easily get up next to him if he does the attack.

For the record, I can't exactly summon help because of very excelent reasons.

This fight is to me what Ornstein and Smough are for most people. I died only once to them, and I made it to the halfway mark on the first try. Then I died a whole bunch to Artorias. And Manus is Artorias plus ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ probably-insta-kill magic attacks.

you can cheese this boss outside his fog wall. stand back and to the right of the fog wall near the ramp down, and look down the hole for his red eyes. you can shoot him here with arrows.
