Can't use the bow effectively?

There is no red stats showing what I need to upgrade? What do I need to uprgade to use the short bow? Is it possible that upgrading my strength would make using the bow not effective?

Well, bows in DS is not deal much damage at all, But if you want to use it effectively you should level up either your dex (for short, long and black bow), str (for greatbows) or both of them (for composite bow). If you are going to keep using shortbow, i prefer level your dex up until 40. Oh and don't forget to upgrade the shortbow to +15.

Thank you for the reply lots of good information. I was planning on using the bow just to get the drakesword I know its frowned upon...

The short bow requires 7str and 12 Dex, if you can't use the bow your arrows will either do 1 damage or just bounce off enemies dealing no damage.

Yea my str is 16. I have the drakesword now I got to the second bonfire after burg, but my plan is to just hang out in burg to farm some souls before I continue on. How much farther tell the first bell?
Is there a level cap? probably wouldnt have to worry about it at this point in the game anyways.

For PVP level cap is 120.

Also the first bell is in the place just after the brigde with Hellkite Drake.

lvl cap is 711 xD
and the first bell is just a boar away xD
normaly about 5-10 min if your slow
but you shouldn't stay there. You should go further. There is a blacksmith.

If you are at the 2nd one that is under the dragons roost then you have about 15 minutes before the bell, thats if your not cannon fodder. from where your at go through the gate, ignore the stairwell to the right as it just takes you to a black knight fight, continue on until you get to a wide staired pathway with an armored pig visible from the entrance.

From here go to the stair well that is tucked away to the right (this is a differeant one from the black knight stairwell) then race along the roof towards the gate, drop down and get through before a hollow knight closes it. From here go into the cathedral take out the lesser knights here then the big one in the back. at the alter with the firekeeper soul go left up another set of stairs. thenjust follow the hallways dispatching any lesser knights or hollow ghouls, beware of the ghouls though as they will swarm you and also take out the magic caster. now just go straight from where you fought the ghouls and then climb the ladder, fight the gargoyles and then ring the bell at the top of the tower

If you missed the gate then you will have to go around to the side route, which is past the armored pig and down a set of stairs to the right of the closed gate. From here just fight your way through the halls until you get to a t junction where you can go left or straight, left takes you to where the gate would have let you reach if you made it in time. straight takes you to the side entrance to the cathedral. at this point either path is an option. once inside just follow as posted in the last paragraph.

(By second I guess I ment 3rd) You didnt have to write this wall of text but thank you anyways and you didnt spoil anything, I was already at the bonfire by the blacksmith. Just tried fighting the gargoyles got them both down to about half health before dying. Didnt have enough flasks. Any tips for the gargoyles iv only tried twice so maybe I just need to try more.

lol for bows u need dexterity and use more bow instead of crossbow (in bows u get bonus dmg from your stats in crossbows your not and u cant aim manualy like bow )

strangely I thought bows are quite overpowered; buy 999 of all of wooden/large/feather arrows, use leveled Paris' bow and you can avoid so many contacts with enemies it's almost suspicious

Instal the fix (Explanation is sticky) and you need to be in his lvl range. After that he placec a sign somewhere and you summon him when you are human. (Restore humanity at the bonfire)

I like the drakesword. I dont invade so if you invade me don't cry about my op weapon. Especially in a game where magic is easy mode.. Its just holding the place of whatever dex weapon I level up later anyways. And yes I found it while trying to cheese the hellkite. I had died trying to cross that bridge like 5 times and finally found under the bridge. Saw his tail and thought "revenge". I didnt have access to a computer in my gaming room back then so no I didnt guide read till much later. At the time especially, I didn't kbow you were supposed to not use a good sword so invaders can beat you easier.
