Magic Shield
This is my first playthrough, but even with the duration ring the duration on magic shield is 100% useless in PvE, am i missing something?

because i'm fighting the gaint wolf and a f magic shield would be very handy right now but it's duration is complete s***

i am, but damn me for thinking i could choose a mage/fighter playstyle using magic. i'm livid, this just ruined alot of respect i had for the devs

You can still focus on using the weapon buffs as a playstyle to keep the mage/fighter idea alive. Magic Shield unfortunately isn't that great, but if you throw a pyro glove on and try Iron Flesh you may find a similar effect.
It gives you -massive- bonuses to defense, but you cannot roll or run while it is active. Sort of a magic enhanced shield wall. It can be an interesting style to learn but it will get your murdered on Sif.

sorceries is maybe one of the easiest builds to get through the game, as long as you know what you're doing. it deals high damage in pve for the first playthrough

yeah you can still use weapon buffs so a mage/fighter is certainly viable. also i wouldn't advise using iron flesh because it's even more useless

It's gud against magic spammers. PvE wise, nope.

iron flesh, i don't think that would increase my stability? ill try it out anyway.

as for sif, it seems i can just keep back flipping and throw spells at him. i was trying to stay under his belly but oh well.

it will actually increase your poise and defense. but you can only walk

Magic shield might only be good for capra demon.

Great magic shield is more viable since it makes you take no damage if you block the attack. It also effects lighting and fire damage as well as magic damage. However, the short duration of the spell is it's biggest drawback. It would probably be better to use the crest shield against magic enemies and then use a fire/lighting resistant shield than to use a spell slot for magic shield.

doesn't sif deal all physical damage? I was using a Knight Shield and he wasn't dealing any damage to me (if Sif if the giant wolf)
cridus Jul 14, 2015 @ 12:26pm
yes, he deals physical damage.

ya, but as a mage who likes to stay light i sold all my shields that werent the heater shield. which may have been a mistake, but this is my first playthrough and id have to delete this character once i beat the game anyway.

so far, i regret upping strength to 11 because id rather have more endurance for shield blocking
PrideGroupIsEvil Jul 14, 2015 @ 12:30pm
and i beat the wolf with backflipping and spells, i just preffer to get in their face when i can. i think next playthrough ill go warrior or wonderer "playstyle". glass cannons are totally viable on this game, it's just learning is more harsh
Fullmetal Jul 14, 2015 @ 12:50pm
you sold your shieds? to frampt? why didn't you just put them in the bottomless box?
