No audio when playing fullscreen on Windows 10
If I start dark souls on Windows 10 in fullscreen mode, I get no audio from the game. Restarting in windowed mode works.

Has anyone faced a similar issue?

Thanks

when in fullscreen, if you alt tab and check the audio/mixer settings, what's going on with the game? do other audio things play fine in background, while playing the game, or are they silent too?

but if you alt tab while the game is running, click on the audio speaker at the bottom right corner of the display, and select mixer, is the volume up and running for the game or is it disabled?

Has there been a fix for this? I'm having the same issue after the windows 10 update.

Every uncommon problem thread has "Windows 10" in it`s title. I`m not a detective, but it might be some kind of trend.

It does help thank you.
I'm having trouble understanding it though. Is he saying I need to hook in my headphones into my TV to hear sound? Or does he mean something else?

You need to hook in your audio in the computer's audio out jack and set it as the default output device.

There's an underlying issue when it comes to audio output over HDMI and it relates to how Windows boots up and in what order it does certain things.

I was able to get it to work with HDMI audio only after unplugging the HDMI, killing explorer, restarting explorer then pluggin the HDMI cable back in.

This also fixes the problem with DS4 controllers not working with some games (e.g. DS, DS2).
I had the same issue with several games, tried updating and downgrading drivers, tried beta steam, tried disabling devices... nothing works.

Alas my solution (worked for me):
For som reason, on Windows 10 some games have problems if the main screen has different icon/app scaling than the side screen (or vice versa). This forced the TV Screen to "refresh" when booting up the game, which meant the game lost its connection to both the display and the tv speakers for a second or two. Enough for it to ignore the speakers.

Just right-click your display, select "display settings" and change the "Change the size of text, apps, and other items" slider to 100% across all displays.

I found a very simple fix for this on my laptop. When I press the button on my laptop (same as F4). It chooses how to project my graphical output. If I choose 1.) it just displays on the laptop. 2.) shows laptop output and projected to the tv (via HDMI) 3.) it extends to both displays and 4.) is just the TV. I normally use 4 because it fills my entire screen and doesn't show anything on the laptop. But this screws the audio up via HDMI. I found that if I use 2, the audio works perfectly through the TV / HDMI output. Not sure if this will help anyone else but I'm pretty sure it just solved all my problems. TvojaMama actually gave me the idea with his last post. Thanks for the help figuring this out!
video70 Feb 24, 2017 @ 7:45am
this helped me.

1.) plug your HDMI in but before you start a game go to setting and "Project on a Second Screen"

2.) Select "second screen only".

that's my fix. hope it helped.

I have the answer to this problem, at least it completely fixed it for me.

After trying every "solution" on the internet without luck I now have the answer. Obviously you must first do as everyone else has probably suggested ... Checking the HDMI output is set as default when it's plugged in etc etc etc.

After months of intermittent HDMI issues with gaming I now know the cause. Essentially ... when you plug your laptop into your TV it is assigned a "resolution" (right click go to graphic options and then resolution to check what it is). If the resolution assigned to the TV is different from that of your game, it will re calibrate the HDMI connection as the game launches. It is this action that causes the audio to be thrown out of sync.

The solution? WITH THE HDMI PLUGGED IN, right click on the desktop, select graphics options, select resolution (or however you normally change the resolution of your laptop) and set it to the exact same resolution of your game. (Find your game resolution in game options obviously)

I hope this helps. It's totally fixed all problems I had related to this. Good luck

I know it has been a while, but this is the comment that finally fixed my issue after hours of searching! Thank you so much!!! :)

None of the fixes have worked so far for me.

My laptop lid is closed, don't know if that makes a difference when messing with the projection settings.

Spintires and Baja Edge of control both have the same issue.

They must be played in windowed mode or no HDMI audio.

Spintires worked once after I had reinstalled Intel HD graphics, which is what semds the audio to the TV via Intel(R) Display audio.
