Griggs / Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring problem

I don't want to upgrade my intelligence but I want the ring. I have done this before so I know it's possible, but I don't remember how I did it. Here's what I've tried so far:

On the first playthrough on this character, I rescued Griggs from lower undead berg. I then freed Logan from Sen's fortress. I later saved Logan from the prison in the duke's archives. Griggs still would not sell me the ring.

On NG+, I first saved Logan, saved him again in the duke's archives, bought all his spells, and then I went back and freed Griggs from lower undead berg. He still would not sell me the ring.

I am 99% sure there is some way you can get him to sell the ring without the int requirement, unless I am just remembering incorrectly and the way I got it before was by upgrading my int. If anyone knows how to do this please let me know. Or if someone would want to drop it to me that would really help as well. I'm SL92 at the moment with 200,000 souls unused. I could give you boss souls or something in exchange if anyone would be interested.

You only need 10 intelligence to buy the ring from him.

10 INT is required, there's no way around it. Even a warrior starts with 9 INT, so I don't see why you couldn't spare the souls, especially at such a low level.
