Just wondering what happends if you try to fight him anyways? Will it not let you pass fog gates or something? Will he not take any damage?
So that's the key to progress in the game, no way around it...
It's worth noting here that you can get the Key to the Seal as soon as you have access to New Londo Ruins by killing the guy that has the key. You can even do it with a basic bow and arrow from the nearby walkways and avoid going through the house full of ghosts to fight him. Key is directly placed in your inventory after he dies.
While you can't fight the Four Kings and live without the Covenant of Artorias ring you do get access to the Dark Wraiths which you can farm for Titanite Chunks and Slabs and the Very Large Ember is also in there for ascending gear to +15. Very worthwhile to get access to that area ASAP. Just gotta be very very careful (being 2 shotted by a Dark Wraith reminded me I wasn't supposed to be there yet, hehe.)
I'm not the best at Dark Souls (stuck on Kalameet on 360 and only just beat O & S on here) and I don't know every detail about the game so may I ask what it changes? I wasn't aware that killing that guy had any effect on your two ending choices.
At the end you can choose the ending regardless of what serpent you speak to.
If you fight the four kings without placing it with "Kingseeker Frampt", another primordial serpent shows up, "Darkstalker Kaathe". He tells you that Frampt's agenda is all hogwash and you shoudn't link the fire. Then you can choose him as your guardian and place the Lordvessel with him. Exit: Frampt
Kaathe gives also access to the "Darkwraith" covenant (Red Orbs, Unique weapon and armor)
Oh no worries there. I plan to not talk to anyone so I can get that covenant achievement from the other one there in the abyss. Besides I hate the Four Kings and had a ton of trouble with them on the 360. I am not in a rush to go back in there and fight them. Gonna be awhile anyway cause I want to do the DLC first this time before Sif so I can get his alternate intro cutscene.
