Oh dear, I can't beat Seath
He just kills me in moments... My character's a strength-oriented zweihander-er wearing elite knight armour - you get the picture, it's my first playthrough...
Is there somewhere I can stand to avoid being hit by the cursing shards that he vomits all over me? Good directions to run to avoid his cursing shards? Weapons or armour that might help?

Don't lock on so you can look at him: when you're not close, he will most likely use his right-to-left crystal beam, when he does that you can stand very close to his belly without getting hit (if you hit him there you'll do more damage too). Then when he sees you're very close to him he'll do his big crystal attack that covers everything in a wide area in front of him, you can recognize this when he lowers his head and starts growling, the only way to avoid it is run out of his range.
Be careful if you go attacking his tentacles thingies to the sides because if he hits you with those or his tail he'll do a lot of damage, it's definitely safer staying in front of him. Pop some humanities to increase your curse resistance too, it'll surely help to not get cursed if you accidentally end up on the crystals. The cursebite ring helps too :dwarven:

That ^^ the dingy set also has some decent curse resistance

Stack up 10 humanity (stat), this will help against curse, some curse resistant armor might help, though i dont remember ever being cursed by Seath, because this requires to stand in crystals for quite awhile.
If your Zwei is fully upgraded, and with decent str/dex, he shouldnt be a problem.
After you break the crystal, run straight to his "core" and attack.
You can also use power within for increased damage.

Stay near one of his tentacles and hit there, I beat him in my first try that way, without even hitting me.

Wear light armor for the fast roll(preferably the Maiden one found in the Prison section of duke's if you have it) don't lock on, stay far away from him, look at his head, when his charging his laser attack, get to his sack, swing a couple of times, rinse, repeat.

Elite Knight armor has no curse resist and bad magic defense. Change armors.

Thank you everyone! I'll try these things out! :)

I had no problem with Seath the other day at SL18 wearing Elite knight set with a upp'd Zwiehander.

That would be because you've played the game before. Someone who hasn't and actually needs their armor to help them absorb hits while they figure out what they're doing...

I absorbed more than a few hits at level 18 that did not kill me. I am a huge believer in the idea that ANY boss can be overcome with ANY armor set.....mainly because I can prove that it can be done.

There is nothing wrong with failure while using prefered armor sets......In all reality, no one set of armor is good for every situation. Learn to make the best of what you want to use and you will be a better player in future battles.

I have no doubt that I could defeat Seath wearing nothing or wearing hollow warrior armor or Chester's set or what have you. So what. If I was a first time player who'd never fought Seath before I'd die a lot more figuring out the fight in those sets than in, say, Painting Guardian mixed with Havel's, the same way I'd die a lot more figuring out Bed of Chaos in Maiden gear than in Black Iron gear. You're advocating something a little too advanced for what it sounds like the op needs.

Use that zweihander to cut the tail, once it's gone you got a safe zone and a new greatsword.

Exactly what I am saying is that ANY boss can be defeated wearing any gear. Experience wins battles. Experience is ONLY gained by trying, failing, and repeating. That is exactly what I am saying.

I am advocating playing the game and getting experience from learning how enemies move and attack. There is nothing advanced about it. We are not talking about rocket telemetry or Heisenberg's uncertainty principal.

On a side note, in my 1k+ hours of gameplay I have NEVER been cursed by Seathe. Not once, not even on my first attempts. My first playthrough used the Elite Knight set also....without guides and without the forums.

I'm saying he's more likely to stay alive and actually get a chance to learn these things wearing an armor combo better suited to absorbing the attacks being thrown at him. AFTER he's learned all he can learn is a better time to decide to go for Fashion Souls.
