Best pve straight sword?

I have astoras straight sword atm. Is it worth upgrading and using later in the game?

To upgrade it you need twinkling titanite or am i wrong here? And you can buy these later on in the game, so you can upgrade the sword. Never liked straight swords. Kurved swords, katanas and greatswords/axes are my thing.

astora sword doesnt do very good damage late relative to how many stats you need to put in.

personaly im a fan of the drake sword
but love the great sword grave lord sword

drake sword and astora sword are kinda similar, great early game, crappy late game.

astora sword scales better, but also requires more stats to use.

I also have a claymore. Its a greatsword but it does pretty high damage. Is claymore worth upgrading? And yes it takes twinkling titanite so I guess I won't be upgrading it. I also heard uchiganta is best katana in the game. I don't like ultra/huge axes because they are too slow

WHYYYYYYYYYYYY do you do this to us? NEVER use the drake sword. Even fully upgraded it sux. The r2 is fun, but no. I would rather use a whip to clear the game, than using that "thing".

nothing wrong with a claymore. If you like a greatsword, you can also buy the b a s t a r d sword of the first smith. Scales with the same stats, you can decide what moveset you like better before upgrading.

you can also get and try the zweihander early game, thats a ultra greatsword that also uses the same stats. ultra greatswords are a lot slower tho, but hit even harder.

well i usually use the fully upgraded grave lord sword so i cbf upgrading most other wepons :) i am trying to upgrade my magic zweilhander

Lightning enchanted Baldur's Side Sword if you plan to level up Dex. . .
...along with Quelaag's Furysword for parrying (although technically not a straight sword)

I love my Balder Side Sword a lot. I have it down the enchanted upgrade path since I'm playing a heavy INT build. I love it a lot and would not consider any other sword as my light melee weapon! (Though I do have a fully upgraded Velka's Rapier for when I feel like doing some riposte and backstab shenanigans)

With that said, I do have my eye on the Moonlight Greatsword for whenever I reach Seathe. On the same hand, I'm also eyeing the Obsidian Greatsword too since it has a naturally high base dmg not depending on stats and would be the only weapon in my arsenal that can deal good dmg already like my other INT based weapons, but unlike them, is the only one capable of abusing my 50 INT Tin Crystalization Catalyst Crystal weapon buff. Fun times ahead.

But anyway you just asked about straight swords....ya, I went Enchanted BSS and never looked back.

..... You know, elemental changes (lightning, fire, chaos) make the scaling fly away like a bird? So when he would go dex, using an elemental weapon would be a waste of points. And if you want to parry with a weapon, use the parrying dagger. That thing is made for that and has the longest parrying frame.

Depends on your luck. I was lucky to get it in about an hour of farming with no humanity or serpent ring.

I could not beat capra demon. I got lucky with mine. On one of my tries the game glitched and he along with his dogs were frozen and would not attack me despite me throwing soul arrows at his face. Free kill, yay!
