Can you take a longsword through the whole campaign?
Just wanting to try a different weapon, and currently have an Enchanted longsword +3, Silver Knight SS +4, Balder Knight SS +7. Experimenting with them randomly, to see what I like.
Mainly use a few different spears for exploring, but just like the straight sword / long sword look.

Any input? And why does the Silver Knight SS have to be so heavy??

Yes the longsword is a fine weapon, it soft caps at 410 ar (about as much as a katana!). I wouldn't use enchanted ANYTHING though. Also the SKSS is so heavy because it's super front-loaded. It would be too good for low levels otherwise.

Any weapon that is not obviously terrible (eg: no scaling + low base damage when upgraded) can carry you through the entire game. Personally, Longsword is my favorite weapon in the game, and it's completely viable in both PVE and PVP situations. Some bosses are a lot easier if you can stagger them with an ultra-greatsword, but there's no boss that can't reliably be beaten with any weapon.

It's all about what kind of moveset fits your playstyle.

Silver Knight weapons are heavy cause those dudes are like 10 feet tall.

Thanks
Won't enchanted weapons scale way better with an INT heavy build though, c/t magic infused?
Pirate 2016 年 2 月 1 日 下午 7:49
Ascending a weapon with the Enchantment line is usually only worth it if your physical stats are minimum and your int is 50-ish.

Otherwise, pure +15 with a spell buff (which also scales off your int, depending on the buff) will be the superior option.

However, feel free to experiment. Mugenmonkey is great for testing builds with weapons, so you can actually see how stat scaling changes weapon damage with different upgrade paths.

Unless you're extremely over-leveled magic and enchanted weapons aren't worth the time. I honestly can't think of a situation where you wouldn't be better off with lightning, chaos or +15 and buffs.

Thanks. Darn, I'll go visit Vamos I guess. I have one prepared for lightning as well, but wanted to have a full house, so to speak - Fire, Lightning longswords, SKSS for magic buffs, and Astora for lols, and the trip to Vamos

trash fire and go chaos, if you're doing fire dmg you want chaos.

I used broadsword throughout the whole campaign. It is like a longsword but shorter and lacks thrust

Only if you always have 10 soft humanity at all times. Most first-time PvEers won't have that.

Longsword's damage is fine, and it's moveset is rather balanced and good for a variety of situations. Personally I used it for most of my first playthrough until I eventually switched to a Manserpent Greatsword... I mainly switched weapons because I wanted to use a weapon that wouldn't look out of place on a heavy metal album cover.

The Astora Straight Sword would have been good if its base damage weren't so low when fully upgraded. C scaling in three stats is pretty awesome, as is the 120 holy modifier against spooky enemies. Plus it's the best looking straight sword in the game. If only you could use Oscar's +8 version....

Meh, it's still good enough to take you through the game with no problems as long as you leveled all 3 stats. You need a few extra hits to take down late-game enemies compared to a more typical weapon you might have upgraded by that point, but it's not like you are handycapping yourself either.

It's also probably the best weapon you can get early on for going through the catacombs. But since Moonlight Butterfly is a very easy boss anyway, that isn't worth much.

I personally prefer the humble claymore.

and it kills skeltons forever even if hte necro is present! Also avoid the dragon tail sword, it is a waste of your time.

Assuming no master key, the Drake Sword is honestly far better than anything you could reasonbly expect to be able to equip by the point of the game where you can get it. It's just... Andre is literally in the next area and if you wanted to, you could upgrade something right then and there to be even better. It does make cutting the gargoyle's tail easy though.

The Drake's Sword's special attack can come in handy vs a few select enemies a little bit after it's been otherwise rendered obsolete... If you are willing to pretty much waste almost all it's durability that is.
Ta'veren 2016 年 2 月 2 日 下午 1:18
Thanks. I did use the Drake sword back in my first play-through, but didn't like the look, and ended switching between the claymore and the halberd.
Used spear and katanas (uchi and iato) for my next run

In Ds 2 I've had runs with basterd sword/drakeblood/watcher/claymore/BKGS (essentially the entire greatsword range), spears, longsword/heide knight/blue flame (loved it for pvp there, but also good most pve)

So, I thought I would use a straight sword in my new DS run (as my son's buddy).
Currently kind of settling on the silver knight ss for pure damage output, although I've read some good things about the dark sword (but 30 humanities seems a high price...)
