How to Infuse weapon with Lightning?
My Claymore is +10 at the moment and I've been googling and can't really get how infusing works...

Heard lightning is great for end-ish game...

How can I apply lightning to my Claymore?

There is a blacksmith in Anor Londo with whom you can modify a +10 normal weapon to a lightning weapon.

Thanks I'll check him out, just finished with Anor Londo first playthrough atm

Guess I didn't see what he had to offer and didn't look well enough

You need to get to a location called Anor Londo. There's a blacksmith that can upgrade +10 weapons into lightning ones.
But keep in mind that lightning removes all scaling and splits your damage into 2 types (physical and lightning). Claymore benefits from dex and str so if you have both leveled up, a +15 version will deal more damage and could be enchanted.

I'm 27 str and 18 dex..

Is enchanting different?

By enchanting, he means temporarily buffing the weapon with items like Gold Pine Resin or spells like Magic Weapon.

Wait... how do I make it +15 then?... Do I need a newer blacksmith or do I keep using the large titanite on it

Yeah, all those options can be confusing and counterintuitive.

Claymore +10, then adding an element path should make it more awesomer amirite?
Nope.
Or: Depends what you want.
Or: Totally, yes, if your build is set up for it.

I use Claymore on my sunbro paladin.
Debated with myself for a long time wether I should upgrade to divine, or just keep upgrading normal and buffing with resins.

To me, the base upgrades + resins gives you way more tactical options in a pinch, byut can get expensive, whereas an infused whatever can seriously suck against certain enemies.

But it can also kick backside soemthing fierce if the enemy happens to be allergic to your infused damage type. And still the damage is split...

Decisions, decisions...

You'll find out soon ;)

With your current stats, lightning would deal more damage. Are you planning to level up str and dex?

Yeah not too many spoilers pls :x

Elemental weapons are great for low level runs and for pvp.

+15 "normal" weapon are great for higher levels, pve, and some pvp as well.

(most) Normal weapons gain bonus damage based on your stats. The higher your stats, the higher the bonus damage. Elemental weapons have either reduced bonuses or no bonuses at all from your stats. In Dark Souls 1, a higher single damage type is much better than comparable split damage. 400 attack rating of a single type is generally better than 500 AR made up of 250 physical + 250 elemental (unless your target happens to be extremely weak vs that element).

Nomal weapons can also be buffed with spells and resins, while split damage type weapons cannot.

You need a special ember to go from +10 to +15. Going from +10 to +11 requires that ember be in the hands of Andre and he does that upgrade, the rest up to +15 can be done with a blacksmith's kit or any other blacksmith. (I hope that wasn't too spoilerific for you. Not saying it's name of where it is located *innocent smile*)

Then I would recommend using the normal upgrade path. To add elemental damage you can use resins and you won't suffer from split damage.
A +5 Lightning Claymore deals 514 dmg, split into 257 physicla and 257 lightning. With your current stats a +15 Claymore will deal 396 physical damage. And with 40 str your physical damag with a +15 Claymore will be at 442. So it's not really worth it to go for the Lightning version.

Elemental weapons are dank for the first playthrough/pvp.
Elemental weapons = mediumhigh damage output for low stat investment.

Yes the split damage is worse than solid damage of a single type, but this really only gets outclassed with a lot of levels because of the parameter bonuses. When you upgrade a weapon down an elemental path it loses any bonuses gained from STR and DEX and gets a flat damage bonus. This is why they are viable for certain PvP builds.. Allows you to get pretty decent damage while being able to put all of your stat points into VIT, END, etc.

You will notice a ridiculous damage increase from claymore+10 to lightning +5. With your stats currently, lightning +5 will be way more damage than claymore +15. You don't yet have the stats needed to gain max damage off of the latter.
