I ALWAYS kill him and clear the catacombs before going to blighttown, any later than that and he's just too easy.
if u summon any boss gets buffed more health more deffences
the difficult in catacombs is to get to the fog gate many skeletons traps
the SOB Patches
after that TOG is another story ...and yes thats hard even if u dont remember it can kill you BUT
many ppl confused with catacombs and tomb of giants!!
>implying that just because skellies rekt a handful of new players that pinwheel wasn't meant to be tackled early
you were supposed to get lost in the tomb of the giants damnit!
There are a few reasons for my claim.
1. They intentionally put an elevator connecting Firelink straight to Andre, who in turn sits right next to the Darkroot where the Divine Ember lies. And ofc as we all know, Andre smiths the divine weapon when given the ember. Andre even tells you that divine weapons are sought by adventures who traverses the Catacombs, and frequently mentions that supposedly fabled divine blacksmith residing in the Darkroot Forest whenever you talk to him.
2. If you have the Master Key, which a lot of the new players and speedrunners alike favour as the starting gift, you can gain access to 1 divine weapon (the Astora's Straight Sword) almost right off the bat by going from Fireline Shrine through the New Londo Ruins shortcut and run to the Undead Dragon in the Valley of the Drake under 30 seconds with 0 enemy encounter besides the dragon itself. The devs even made it for your convenience that grabbing the sword alone WILL NOT awake the dragon. Also Astora's Straight Sword's scaling is spread hence it's not great for dedicated and ofc late game builds, meaning it's designed to be used right away, such as in the Catacombs where it's most relevant.
3. Patches will be encountered in the Catacombs (complete with his own set of jolly and charming interactions) if you visit the place early. This just shows that Catacombs is also meant to be visited early on into the game.
4. After defeating Capra Demon, Reah and her companions will appear and shortly afterwards they and Petrus would enter the Catacombs if you reload or leave Fireline Shrine. Though I am not entirely sure of the actual mechanics but after a very short absence, Petrus should return and ask you to head down to the Catacombs "to save my lady", he would say. Which is a hint to ask you to clear the Catacombs, even though Reah is actually in the TotG where it's pitch black and almost impossible to navigate without a proper light source. I think the reason behind it is to force the player to return empty handed, so they can feel guilty about it after seeing the hollowed Nico and Vince upon your revisit of TotG in a later time.
Just as I've elaborated, I am very certain that Pinwheel is meant to be an early boss.
Yes, tbh I often skip Taurus Demon completely.
I run to Andre, get a +5 weapon, Clear Darkroot Garden/Basin (except for Sif), get a Divine Weapon, clear catacombs. Then I might do Asylum/Stray Demon. After that is when I'll probably kill Gargoyles/Quelaag, but I usually do Hollow/Ash Lake before Quelaag.
Basically I go everywhere you can go, and pick up every single bit of loot, before I do Sen's.
The Chosen Undead charges head on and begins their onslaught.
Pinwheel: "Why you little.... I have got no time for this, BEGONE"
But as a humble servant, he is too fragile to take on the violent assaults and quickly scrambles to the Chosen Undead's menace.
Pinwheel: "Why me... why.....this....."
Chosen Undead picks up his hidden treasury as well as keeping one of his masks as a trophy while deluding themselves to believe that they have vanquished a great evil.
Well for me I'd rather deal with some hollow soldiers and the Taurus Demon than getting past the blue drakes and shaking off that Black Knight in the Darkroot Basin from my arse. But hey, to each his own.
Well, you can easily run past the Drakes, then just kill the Black Knight. Alternatively you can run through the watchtower and kill Havel on the way.
Yeah I never used that door behind him (at least never from Undead Burg to Darkroot, and only rarely from Darkroot to Undead Burg) so he didn't immediately come to my mind here, you're right.
EDIT: The drakes are easy to get past, outside of that one that blocks the mountain path.
is super easy, prepare to live edition starts now
I like you.
