Lautrec didn't drop ring

I'm new and it seems like it's a good idea to kill Lautrec. I freed him and he was in Firelink Shrine. I fought him a bit and then he rolled off the edge and died. I don't see his ring, though. Did I do something wrong?

I didn't want Anastacia to die. Does she do anything useful after the third Fire Keeper Soul?

Re-load the area. Just quit and start the game again. The ring will be where he sits.

If you knew he was going to kill Anastacia, you were probably reading the wiki. In which case it'll probably say close by that you can avenge her and indeed bring her back later.

Unlike a lot of things, even if you're not reading the wiki, the game does actually funnel you to avenging her (though it doesn't tell you it is) when you reach Anor Londo.

I quit and started again and got the ring. I'm doing Blightown right now, so I think I might not equip it just yet.
