You may find Beatrice's White Sign down beneath the stairs leading to the Moonlight Butterfly. She is a great help in fighting this fight.

she's hidden in the bushes close to the stairs. you don't need the white soapstone to find her, you just need to find her sign.

the first time i fought this boss (maybe the second and the third as well...) I didn't even know there was a NPC summon for this boss which is amusing if you take into consideration that very rarely I play as an zombie goast. never bothered to check the bushes...

Or you can just dodge all attacks and wait for the butterfly to land on the bridge... that way you can attack it melee, but it'll also heal itself.
If you do this though be prepared for a looooong fight

does it? (i honeslty have at least 800 hours in game, most in offline mode) cuase ive beaten moonlight butterfly by mysellf countless times with no issue. what weapon are you using and what is your level and gear?

if it does regen then maybe you sould use a humanity and summon the witch (at the back of the FIRST staircase thats lead to the MLB). just run past everything if you have to, there is a bonefire pretty close. the witch beatrice? will kill it by herself as long as you dodge everything.

if you die the butterfly will be at full health BTW. idk if that is what's happening or not
