DARK SOULS™: Prepare To Die Edition

DARK SOULS™: Prepare To Die Edition

Is 44:57 still the world record DS1 speedrun?
Didn't think he could do it any better, but Kahmul78 just never stops trying.

A sub-45 run. *shivers*

The world record was set when the guy did DkS under 15 minutes as he glitched his way into the Kiln of the First Flame as soon as he reached Firelink Shrine for the very first time.

No one will be able to beat that record, again.

You'll always find info here: http://speedsouls.com

(Except for the new DS2 record Taka ran a few minutes ago, but it will be updated in a short time I guess.)
I never understood the obsession with Speedruns. Do they just wanna become Sanic?

Well cut them some slack, most Sanic games suck so they have to play Sanic somewhere else....

It's more about the precision they need. You can't really make a single mistake. Doing a good run requires exceptional skills, doing a WR run is even beyond that. Also people figuring out the optimal routes and methods are just geniuses.

I didn't either, until I watched a 4-player competitive Super Metroid speedrun done for charity (Amazing Games Done Quick 2014).

The passion is real. (^_^)

It's a way of:

(a) showing your love for the game,
(b) showing off your mastery of the game,
(c) getting the most out of your game by beating and/or completing it in various ways, and
(d) gaining admiration from the game's community.

The generaly accepted rule that you can use Exploits for Speedruns seems odd to me.

The goal of speedrun is to "finish the game as fast as possible", so if there is a glitch that allows that, you can use it. But you can only use the glitch that is in the game itself, you can't introduce new glitches or rules by modifing the game.

Those of us who've been playing the game for long often use it for casual gameplay too. This game can be epic in unintended ways too. First time killing the big O within seconds (using moveswap) just feels as good as first time killing him normally.
I'm fine with exploits as long as they're using bugs that got shipped with the game and never got patched out.

That skip has its own category so there's like 3 or more world record depending on the category

If you dont want to see speedrunners use exploit, watch the glitchless any% category
