What's the point of upgrading faith?
I'd also ask what the point of upgrading intelligence is but I haven't even gotten into sorcery yet so I'll abstain from that.

Anyway, am I correct in assuming that faith is tied to miracles and boosting faith boosts the effectiveness of such miracles? So healing heals more if you have more faith, right? I assume spells that buff you buff further if you have more faith? So far I see that levelling faith is required to meet reqs to cast spells, but I assume they also become more effective with higher faith stat?

How many of these questions would you be able to answer yourself?

My advice is to level your faith if you want your miracles to do more damage. You cast miracles with a talisman, and that is where your damage comes from. It scales with faith, and the number you want to look at to see how much the talisman augments the base spells power is labeled as MagAdjust. It's the same for spells. Higher MagAdjust = Higher damage/greater heals.

I'm pretty sure it works like that except for the magic barrier miracles.

Raising faith will raise the MagAdjust of the talisman you're using, however different kinds of talismans provide different amounts of MagAdjust. Some have a relatively flat MagAdjust, while others scale well with faith, and one kind doesn't scale with faith at all :)

Very, very few miracles don't become stronger with higher faith.

Intelligence works similarliy for catalysts and sorceries.

One more thing. Weapon scaling. Occult and divine weapons scale with faith. Magic and enchanted weapons scale with inteligence. Some not upgraded weapons scale with these stats too.

Don't waste points in faith, get your resistance up to 40. Your going to need it for the final boss.

The Velka Talisman scales with INT & the Darkmoon Catalyst scales with FAI tho so if you did want to only level one of these stats but still want to cast some spells from the other you can. You just need the base stat required to cast it.

Hopefully, OP, you already know that resistance is bad - never level it up

On another note what's a good faith weapon I could use on my Sunbro?

You can see some weapons here: http://darksouls.wikidot.com/faith
People usually upgrade their favorite weapons to occult or divine. Or upgrade to +15 and use Sunlight Blade.

Personally I like a divine greatsword, it has the poise damage to stunlock the skeletons. Anything divine should work.

This is what I was most interested in.

I looked at upgrade paths and I figured magic and weapons with lightning or whatever depend on intel stats, but I've also heard the most hard hitting weapons are regular upgraded weapons that depend on dex and strength, which makes magic weapons useless and no poitn in putting in intel other than to use stronger sorceries.

Fire and lightning weapons don't scale. Regular weapons hit harder because the way defense system works. Basically 500 regular damage > 250 regular damage + 250 magic damage. But magic weapons aren't useless.

so fire an lightning doesnt scale with intel neither?

Seems like their use is only for enemies with weaknesses to those two things

Personally I think divine/magic weapons are good for builds that focus on miracles/sorceries. Those with high faith or int could get more out of these weapons, compared to elemental and quality weapons, until they up their str or dex.

Elemental weapons are commonly used by low-level gankers, lv. 20-30 darkwraiths with +10 fire claymores hit really hard for that level. These weapons allow you to focus on vitality and endurance, since they don't scale with offensive stats.

You're good at answering your own questions~

Magic/Faith weapons aren't useless. You can kill most of the bosses in the game with them assuming you have the right build. For the bosses that are particularly resistant to magic (the category) damage you can rely on elemental weapons.

There are separate magic, fire, and lightning resistance tables.
