Playing DS on Laptop with Intel HD5500
Hi there,

I'm somewhat unsuccessfully trying to get the game to run on a Dell Latitude E7450.
It's running Win7 64bit.
Configuration:
Core i5-5300U
Intel HD 5500 Graphics
8GB Ram
SSD
1920x1080 screen

I know that this system if by no means a gaming system, but somehow I thought I could at least get DS to run in offline mode with a resolution like 720p. But simply no way.
I went down to 9XX x 5XX but still can't manage to get stable 30fps, even at the start.
I think I'm missing something, because somehow the gains from downgrading the resolution don't show up considerably in the fps rate.

My DSFix config:

# You can configure DSfix by editing this file # Lines starting with "#" are ignored by the program and contain descriptions of the options ############################################################################### # Graphics Options ############################################################################### # internal rendering resolution of the game # higher values will decrease performance renderWidth 711 renderHeight 400 # The display width/height # 0 means use the same resolution as renderWidth/Height # (use for downscaling - if in doubt, leave at 0) presentWidth 1920 presentHeight 1080 ############# Anti Aliasing # AA toggle and quality setting # 0 = off (best performance, worst IQ) # 1 = low # 2 = medium # 3 = high # 4 = ultra (worst performance, best IQ) aaQuality 0 # AA type # either "SMAA" or "FXAA" aaType SMAA ############# Ambient Occlusion # Enable and set the strength of the SSAO effect (all 3 settings have the same performance impact!) # 0 = off # 1 = low # 2 = medium # 3 = high ssaoStrength 0 # Set SSAO scale # 1 = high quality (default) # 2 = lower quality, lower impact on performance # 3 = lowest quality, lowest impact on performance ssaoScale 3 # Determine the type of AO used # "VSSAO" = Volumetric SSAO (default, only option pre-1.9) # "HBAO" = Horizon-Based Ambient Occlusion # "SCAO" = VSSAO + HBAO # "VSSAO2" = Volumetric SSAO with more samples (tweaked by Asmodean) # VSSAO and HBAO types have a slightly different effect. and similar performance # SCAO combines both, with a higher performance impact # VSSAO2 is generally more accurate, but also requires more performance ssaoType VSSAO ############# Depth of field # Depth of Field resolution override, possible values: # 0 = no change from default (DoF pyramid starts at 512x360) # 540 = DoF pyramid starts at 960x540 # 810 = DoF pyramid starts at 1440x810 # 1080 = DoF pyramid starts at 1920x1080 # 2160 = DoF pyramid starts at 3840x2160 # higher values will decrease performance # do NOT set this to the same value as your vertical rendering resolution! dofOverrideResolution 540 # Depth of Field scaling override (NOT RECOMMENDED) # 0 = DoF scaling enabled (default, recommended) # 1 = DoF scaling disabled (sharper, worse performance, not as originally intended) disableDofScaling 0 # Depth of field additional blur # allows you to use high DoF resolutions and still get the originally intended effect # suggested values: # o (off) at default DoF resolution # 0 or 1 at 540 DoF resolution # 1 or 2 above that # 3 or 4 at 2160 DoF resolution (if you're running a 680+) dofBlurAmount 1 ############# Framerate # Enable variable framerate (up to 60) # NOTE: # - this requires in-memory modification of game code, and may get you banned from GFWL # - there may be unintended side-effects in terms of gameplay # - you need a very powerful system (especially CPU) in order to maintain 60 FPS # - in some instances, collision detection may fail. I think you are out of luck, The HD5500 is an integrated card so even if you have an i5 and loads of ram it won't make any difference, The game is a bad port and even I get lag spikes and frame drops so even if you get it running now the second you get to blighttown it's going to be even worse.
SenMithrarin85 Apr 24, 2016 @ 7:16am
The game is a very bad port and even dsfix can only do so much. There's sadly no way you'll get a stable 30 on an intel gpu (which are NOT meant for gaming).

As a last resort, try to unlock the fps but leave it set to 30 instead of 60. This bypasses the game's framelimiter but avoids the bugs associated with framerates higher than 30. This prevents the fps tanking in blightown but doesn't stop it tanking against a certain crystal spewing boss :(

Yeah that's what I thought, I already did a driver update, but it didn't really help.
Any of you care to post your DSFix Config? Maybe I'm missing something?
And are you guys using official drivers or some kind of modified ones?

Thanks in advance!

Ingame AA is deativated.

I'm really appreciating any help but it would definitely help if the you guys running DS on low spec told me how you do it ;)

Then something's mixed up with my Laptop because even at your rendering resolution in the area before the first boss the frames go down to 17.

I even tried modded drivers for the Intel HD5500, but same thing.
Are your drivers for the Intel HD up to date or do you use older ones?

Greets!
Dame Arstor Apr 25, 2016 @ 12:56am
Make sure that your laptop is not running in Power Saving mode
Jeks Apr 25, 2016 @ 2:09am
why so crappy GPU ?
Dmonlord Apr 25, 2016 @ 2:17am
my drivers are up to date, are you using windows 10 by any chance? i use to, but it has so many background processes that makes everything run slower, went back to win7, you could download razr gamebooster and optimize your laptop and see if thats the problem

other thing you should look for is the temperature of your cpu, download HWmonitor so you can keep track of it and see if it's slowing down the clock so it won't burn

I play with a nice cooling pad and removing the back cover so the fans can blow air directly to the motherboard, ram, etc, but you can buy a cheap vaccum fan cooler to suck hot air faster out of your laptop if you don't want to take it apart
