Why do I have to fight Sif?
I know why they put him as a boss: to emotionally screw with you if you've gone through the Artorias of the Abyss DLC. But I'm trying to understand story wise. Why would Sif attack you if he/she recognizes you? He/she (screw it, I'll call it "it") clearly regrets having to fight.
I've heard the rumor that it doesn't want you to enter the Abyss, but someone pointed out that you should have already defeated Manus by that point and become immune to its effects, so the Abyss isn't even an issue. Is it just looking for an honorable death but doesn't want it to come from you?

Normally: Sif is protecting its masters grave. To Sif, that grave may as well be where Artorias is, so Protecting Grave = Protecting Master.

With DLC: Sif hesitates because it likes you... but it cares about its Master more, and will protect him, even from an old friend.

Because there can't be a happy ending...not for Sif....neither us

In the past Artorias saved Sif life, so he wants to protect his friend's grave even with his own life
( Sorry for bad english tho <.<)

He protects you...he doesn't want you to get the ring to be able to enter abyss and get corrupted like his Master. He can't kill you since you're undead. Makes it even easier to kill him right?

Because it's a stupid dog with an emotionally overrated lore.

Only someone who would kick a dog in real life would say something like this, bro :(

Best description of Sif I've ever read.

Thank you! That makes more sense.

Because, Sif isn't just going to give you the Covenant of Artorias.

Thats is the explanation that I always went with. Almost every NPC goes hollow, and eventually need to be killed.....Either by you or their daughter. This game has no happy endings.....Only endings.

Also my perspective.

You're not harming his grave in any way though.

you are literally going in and GRAVE ROBBING to get Artorias's ring from his grave. true you don't destroy the gravestone itself, but a grave is far more than just the stone on top, especially to those who care about the one that died. so that's far removed from not harming his grave in ANY way.

...that said, every fight I ever had VS Manus, if I tried to summon Sif, he either glitched out and didn't show up at all (but Magnus still got buffed, I could tell by the damage I did and the size of HP lost to that damage), or worse, his moving around ended up getting me killed, so screw that doggo he can just die (sure I usually play a glass cannon style mage, so to some degree I'm just asking for it BUT when doggo has agro and jumps past me and in that half a second when my screen is all blurry doggo I get insta-killed by something I couldn't see through him to know was coming, that's not entirely my fault at that point)

Sif doesn't buff Manus's health. Whatever you thought you were seeing, you were simply wrong.
