Gaping dragon is suddenly giving me a hard time
I'm embarrassed to admit it.

Ok, so this is considered one of the easiset bosses in DS and I agree. On my first playthrough I breezed through it. Waited until his slam, stayed out of his charge and then hacked his legs. Rince and repeat and he was dead. Easy. Didn't even hack off his tail.

However, I decided to trash my character and do a rerun since I allocated points poorly. Now I've tried this boss six times and haven't gotten him below 50% even. I do the same as I did before, have roughly the same gear, perhaps even better. The thing that causes trouble is that he's started to follow me aound much more than he did before. And he also started to jump very frequently. Last fight he jumped two times in a row. Dodged the first but couldn't avoid his second jump.

I'm really ashamed here but it feels like fighting a completely different boss. I've read people doing this fight without him jumping a single time and to me he's like a jack-rabbit.

as soon as he jumps run away and keep moving, maybe gear is too heavy?

Just hug his front leg to the side a bit and you'll be fine

I'm wearing the same gear as before. Medium roll (below 50%) worked well then. Can't see why it shouldn't work now. Just don't understand why he started jumping around now when he didn't do that before. One jump I can dodge but not two in a row. Gonna try again with less gear and see if things are different.

if it gets too frustrating, I'll help.

what do you mean by jump? When he goes up into the air? That takes pretty long before he plunges down, so why not avoid it two times?

Well, it's almost as if he's homing in on me. TBH, I was quite baffeled that he started jumping, so I didn't really know what to do. Probably I'm not fast enough but I have been trying to sprint away from his jump and still he got me.

Thanks, but I'm determined to solo this one. If I could do it once I can do it again. Just have to reevaluate my gameplay.

mybe you don't have to try that hard, I think I don't sprint when he goes up just run and roll around a bit, I think he does some homing but the homing stops early I thinnk, so changing direction might be more important than sprinting

Anyway, I downed him (her?) fairly easy now. Guess it was my own shortcommings :)

I never knew the Gaping Dragon was supposed to be one of the easiest bosses. I find some bosses that are supposed to be hard, like the Capra Demon, the Bed of Chaos(Died a single time to the Bed of Chaos), and Gravelord Nito easy.

The Capra Demon per se is very easy, even with the cramped up space. It's the opening of the fight that most find difficult and somewhat random. You almost literally get pounced within the second you enter and if you are unlucky, you can get cornered. When you manage to kill the dogs the Capra Demon itself is a rather enjoyable fight.

Every time he charges, try to get behind him and whack him.
