Lost Drake Sword
The dragon flew away before I could kill it and now I can't get the Drake Sword. Any solutions?

Reload the area and cross the bridge again, it will come back.

reload the area and it should come back. it comes back when you go to the middle of the bridge. (if it doesnt come back try reloading again). note that you just have to cut its tail, not kill it, to get the drake sword.

Does the tail come off if I dealt enough damage to its head?

No it does not. The drake sword is a trap, by the way. It's a bad weapon that's really only good for the immediate area that you get it in. Once you've found a blacksmith, upgrade any other weapon that you like and stop using the Drake Sword.

How much do I upgrade with the long sword?

As much as you want? It depends on your build. If you go 28 strength/40 dex or 40/40, take the longsword to +15. If you don't do that with your stats, take it to +5 lightning or chaos. Or choose a different weapon that you like better that aligns with your stats. But whatever you end up using it'll be better than the Drake Sword. It's just not a good weapon.

Consider it a blessing and move on. The drake sword is only good for the very early game and loses its power very quickly due to the fact it has no scaling. Just find a weapon with a moveset that suits your playstyle and upgrade it, don't worry about the damage stat.

If you played through at least once and u like the game, then go for that sword either to have fun with a little special attack or to use the small advantage it provides until you know how to get better gear. Obtaining it now as a new player doesn't make the game more easy. Only maybe a little bit more easy for the next few fights but then it's easy to not notice how that sword does not provide benefit anymore. So you might stick to it and wonder why the game gets harder and harder unaware that your weapon is far worse than it looks.

This happens. So be glad to have missed and stay with longsword
