Vow of silence Viable?
so i made a melee/faith build (uses a dmb crystal claymore and divine shotel) and im not sure what spells to use.

i have 6 slots and was using dmb, replenishment, 2x wrath, gravelord greatsword dance, and emit force.

i tried out vow of silence because i was running into alot of casting gankers in the forest but honestly it seems kinda ♥♥♥♥.

point being it costs 2 spell slots and it only lasts for a short amount of time where for that you could have 2x great magic barrier which gives you 4 castings and reduces magic damage by 85-95%

so my question is when is vow of silence viable, or is it?

it seems like it might only be useful in duels but then it just seems kind of dickish for a duel. (like using tranquil walk or something like that)

anyways, let me know your thoughts. o/

It is viable if you're the host and can cast it during phantom spawning, otherwise they will be fully buffed before you manage to cast it.
The only real use would be if you see that someone is surely sorcerer then you can use it during "buffs phase" before fight and play agressively until it lasts.
Ultimatly however if you're going to pack 6 spells on yourself then VoS is bad choice because you will limit yourself rather than most enemies. DMB, SLB, GMB, WotG are simply better choices, GGSD/Replenish has slow casting and will probably get you a free backstab, EF is good in small spaces if you turn off lock-on when they roll toward you.

Edit: Why would you consider it dickish? that normal strategy, if someone is butthur that you used spell that prevent them from rolling backstab you then it their problem.

are you talking about the spell strong magic shield or the crest shield (has strong magic defence) because if its the spell i cant use it, im a faith build. but i do swap between sanctus, grass crest, and crest shields alot

thanks for the reply, yeah i could see the uses for it if you were the host but most of my bosses in pvp areas are dead so i dont host often.

as far as me saying TWOP is dickish is because the people that use usually hornet ring BS or have persuers or wrath to hit you when you cant avoid it.

Backstab? Just put shield up and walk backward and when they run to you fishing for backstab just whack them, simple lock-on will prevent most of their attempts (which they have like 1). I think that you can still do jump attack but not for sure. If you have any AoE attack it will definitely prevent them.

i'm talking about the spell

A guy try to hornet BS with TWOP,I put my strong magic shield(spell) and put my back against the wall,he did not get a BS, then began an R1 spam, I parry the second or third attack, I do not remember

Anything with the words "dmb" and "claymore" in your build makes it automatically viable.

As for vow of silence, rolling through spells and miracles is often the cheaper route I find, however it is a good alternative if your build is something like a fat roller.

I tried to make an anti-magic build, I have 30 faith, but I realized that, for me, only "strong magic shield was necessary,is a really under used spelll...

If the duration on the magic shield spells weren't a pile of ♥♥♥♥ I would use them. it lasts like 5 seconds. :P

15 seconds,if I see he is using pursuers,I run like a bull to the oponnent, defend the pursuers and I don't give time to he cast this ♥♥♥♥ again. You can use the lingering dragoncrest ring to double the time of the strong magic shield
