How do you remove 'You Died' and other similar messages?
Hello Steam community! I'm making a music video with Dark Souls and I was wondering if there is any way to remove that pesky 'You Died' message along with 'Humanity Restored' and all the other ones. I got nothing personal against those messages, it's just that they look really tacky when they pop up and ruin the shot. Turning the HUD off doesn't remove it so I was wondering if anyone knew how to do so.

Please, I need your halp!

Get gud.

sorry, I couldn't help it

you'll need a custom 3abef6fc.png file and put it into your DSfix "tex_override" folder.

Not sure how to get rid of the horizontal black bar though.

Oh my goodness, yes! It actually removed the text now I gotta get rid of that black bar though, I'll find a way! Thank you so much, I'll give you a credit in the video!

So you made a 1024x1024 blank transparent png file?

Basically yeah. I downloaded the mod you linked to (which is hilarious by the way) and just erased everything on it and put it into the folder and voila, it worked! Now I just gotta find that black bar file.

Might need to go into your DSfix.ini and set it to dump textures. Then you can go through the list and see which ones are applicable. I did this and saw at least two other files that contain those messages.

It's geting more complicated...

EDIT:
I think you need to run the game once after setting "enableTextureDumping 1" to get DSfix to dump the textures into the tex_dump folder.

Then you can browse the folder with Gimp, or whatever.

After looking through the texture dump I never saw a "black bar" texture. There was a white bar though, with top and bottom gradient.

this is the closest thing I could find http://i.imgur.com/WFZIunW.jpg

Geez, this is some seriously complicated stuff. I'm looking through all these textures and still finding nothing. I saw those other messages like you said and think those might be dealing with some cut content. I really appreciate you helping me, really!

lulz. I wish there was a way to rotate through a bunch of them. Far as I know. It's just a texture swap through DSfix

Right now. I have the "Thanks Obama" one. Cracks me up everytime i see it.

AHHH, I figured it out! You don't even have to do any stupid retexturing either! All you have to do is, with DSfix installed, press RCtrl and ALL hud items go away. Menu screens, pop-up button prompts, messages like 'You Died' ... EVERYTHING!

This will definitely be useful for people like that wanna do some stupid videos like me. Thanks T0R0ID so much for helping me!

Did not realize there was a shortcut for that. You can do the same in the options.

True, that's the one I've been using for a bit but that only takes out life bars and such. DSfix's goes the extra mile and takes out every little HUD thing that can be found. Even the pause menu is gone, which is a little disorienting and even got me killed haha.

I'm just so glad I don't have to do any retexturing and now I can keep have my custom death messages for playing while not recording!

UGH, JEEZ. Of course it's that simple. Funny thing is, once you mentioned it I instantly remembered that DSfix does indeed have that feature...
