The only direct story telling this game does is in the opening cutscene
the actual storytelling in game is bigger then most people give it credit for tho.
opening cinematic, crestfallen, frampt/kaathe, they all give very direct story info.
The lore is, what people refer to. It's rich, yet ambiguous. There's tons of details that you will miss if you try to piece it together and that's why it's so much fun trying to uncover it.
And if you just "did stuff" and never talked to anyone or even moved that thing inside your skull to put most obvious pieces together then it's game surely not for you.
Game's main story is a story of grand falsehood plotted by 'gods'.
Guy probably has it console? Like me, and the only place to discuss things is steam
Dark Souls has a very clear story, but it's not presented through badly written exposition, you actually have to figure things out for yourself by talking to NPCs, and connecting the dots on your own.
What, a game that makes you think? Preposterous!
I have it on PS3, 360, and PC. I have.... a third more Dark Souls than you?
you buy games just for make them collect dust or something
Story in a nutshell: You are a chosen undead, capable of defeating the trials of the Asylum, and as such have been chosen to go in Pilgrimage to Lordran to ring the bells of awakening and find out your true destiny from a toothy Serpent who may or may not be telling you the whole truth. So you go to the city of the Gods themselves to recover an item necessary for your quest, on return you are taken the shrine wherein you place the item and your quest widens to reclaiming the remnants of the Lord Souls and returning them to the fire. By doing this the door opens to where the first fire was found, after moving through the ruins you come across the Husk of Lord Gwyn merely a fraction of his previous greatness, A lord of sunlight no more, reduced to cinder, hollowed, insane, soul depraved. Finally once he is defeated you have the choice to either begin the cycle of fire anew knowing not if it will succeed, or turning your back on the quest and allowing the fire to go out eventually becoming a lord of the dark. Phew. That's the DkS story in a nutshell
