The man in the catacombs?

I found this bald guy in the catacombs and without even talking to him i attacked and killed him because he was near a lever, did i make a mistake by killing him?

I just didnt trust him he looked like a wierdo and i thought he would flip the switch and kill me.

And yes i did actually test to see if that was the switch to the bridge.

His name is Trusty Patches.If you didnt kill him and answered his question correctly as to whether or not you're a cleric further into the area,he will be staying in Firelink Shrine as a merchant after defeating a boss in Tomb Of The Giants.He's the only person that sells the family mask which you have a chance to get only one of them from the boss,Pinwheel.He's not really that useful tbh
