Not really. The difficulty in Souls games are really oversold. When you're a complete begginer there's a steep learning curve, though.

I think I died 10~ times on my first playthrough and never in the same area twice.

That said, if you play online now you will most certainly die often because the only people pvping are those that have min/maxed characters.

I recently played mhrise (new to the series) an I got so frequently angry after completing the game. I started analyzing the crappy hit boxs, constant spamming of 1 move (rathian) and cruddy ai from buddies. Bad hit boxes, you'll notice them alot (cough*tigrex) if your a bug glaive or switch axe, the beast charges forward while your attackin its tail or back leg an you take full dmg because its body becomes the hitbox or you'll get stuff like zinogre were it raises then slams its lighting palm, I dodge on the other side of its body away from the shock paw clearly under the sharp rigid belly an chin of the beast an took no dmg when its sharp chin an body slam on the ground. The spamming of moves, I hate it but if its a certain move that I can take advantage of an max dps then meh i'm alright. Buddies, I have clip on my switch in the desert biome on a expedition I almost forgot to carve a monster, drop down began carving an then bunch of jaggies kept smacking me I kill 1 hoping my buddies can atk an draw there attention got smacked by 2 more kill them body de-spawns an reveals my cat who's jump slamming in 1 spot an my hound who's half it body stuck in the wall missing all its atk's to the 3 growling jaggies next to it. I record cause near the end of the 30 secs 1 jaggie literally walk up to me a bit me, video ends. I mean come on you here to assist me like I paid you.... .. . I would complain somewhere else but the ppl there are already used to it.
