The Chained Prisoner... Why Is It In The Game?
What exactly does the Chain Prisonner contribute to the game? You find it once, it isn't a bossfight, it drops an early game set at a late game area, it has no lore or story what so ever. As of right now, I think it's just cut content being reused. I kinda wish they did more with him. Like making him a boss fight with a less boring moveset and maybe making him bigger.

Because almost every single encounter in the entire series has some kind of explanation. This is one of the few that does not.

it's one of oolacile's former prisoners, if you've paid attention to the first bonfire in the abyss, you'll notice you're actually in a prison cel,, the chained prisoner is maybe the last one left.

And that caused him to become a big monster made of chains with a stake through his... Body.

Ofc, the abyss influence had something to do with it, that's also why everyone there has bloated heads, so becoming a bizarre entity made out of chains makes sense

I don't really see why he would be a prisoner if he had a tree stuck through him already. Did they place him in a cell and stick a pole through him?

Maybe he wasn't even human in first place, maybe it's part of the many columns in oolacile.

A column boss fight!

With the exception of the prisoner, people of the city were turned into monsters (well, more monsterous monsters). In addition, the prisoner is equipped with gear that's fundamentally different in style (chainmail) as compared to the town's inhabitants.

I have to wonder if the prisoner is like Artorias... someone who came into the city from outside after the fall... and failed to defeat Manus (and were captured/corrupted).

Just a thought, really...

What does it matter? You kill him and move on, not everything needs to explained. That is what makes this game what it is.

No. The opposite is what makes this game what it is. Dark Souls is good because things aren't just slapped into place for no reason. Everything has an explanation. That's good writing. The opposite is lazy writing.

Since 2011. And I know quite alot about the story and lore to know that 90% of everything has some logic behind it.

What if he's the cresstfallen wariior?

After he says he is going to make something after Frampt arrives, maybe, he went to Darkroot Basin, and manus kidnapped him, but way before the time when the chosen undead arrives.
Maybe, he was searching for Kaathe, just like in New Londo Ruins.
But, i can't believe he would go all the way to Duke's Archives ( if he needs to get the pendant too )
