Huh...Didn't know that those two could die. Don't even know who griggs is. Isn't he that guy that's all emo and wears the tower knight set?

Griggs is the magic merchant who's the apprentice of Big Hat Logan. You rescue Griggs trapped in a house in Lower Undead Burg (the area with the Capra Demon boss fight).

Ohhhhh that guy..Yeah but he sucked anyway.

Yeah but you save him and he dies no matter what. It's one of those choices that are fine for the game but I don't see why things like this happen but Sif is a mandatory kill.

Throughout the series, there are several bosses in each game that make you feel terrible for killing them. Removing them would ruin the powerful experience and emotion felt. You're not just on some holy quest to save everyone, you're on a quest that involves killing anything that stands in your way to make a choice and there isn't much you can do. I like that some bosses can be spared while most can't.

However, I think it would be interesting to see a souls game where you don't have to kill anything at all. I always feel bad for being forced to kill.

Yeah I get that. But the only bosss worth sparing are Sif and Priscilla in this game. You're given the option to spare Priscilla but not Sif. Almost every NPC is doomed no matter what you do. Most of them go off and get hollowed. If you save Rhea she just gets captured by a Golem and ends up hollowed in Duke's Archives. Griggs wanders off eventually and turns Hollow in Sen's, etc.

Sif being a forced kill doesn't really make sense because in the DLC you can save him in the past and summon him to kill Manus. So he remembers who you are. He knows your scent. Yes you're the one who killed his master, but he doesn't know that and you saved him.
Yeah that part with needing to kill Sif for the ring even if you saved them always baffled me. Logically, they would at least let you have it after saving them.

Yeah because if Sif remembers you (and he should) he would remember you saved him. It's possible to do the DLC before him right? You can place Lord Vessel before the 4 Kings iirc. If not then the DLC is still the distant past and the game should assume Sif was freed when you first fight him. That's something they should have thought of when they released the DLC. But oh well.

Sif does indeed remember you if you save him in the DLC before fighting him and you get one of the most depressing cutscenes ever.

So the cutscene changes if you do the DLC before Sif and 4 Kings?

I find the custscene sad...But at the sametime hopeful...Sif knows what the abyss can do and has seen his master Artorias become nothing but a simple hollow. He knows who you are and what your there for. And he knows one of you will die. He's doing it to protect you. So you don't go to the abyss and meet the same fate as Artorias did. In ways....If you die. By real life logic he would be stopping you from loosing yourself and going hollow. As aparant if you take off the ring before the bossfight you'll get a special cutscene. And when respawning it'll say you were taken by the abyss..Something sif doesn't want to happen to you.

If you want the cutscene to trigger fall into the abyss then take off the ring.

i just ♥♥♥♥ out my oppinion aswell: the first time you fight em you get ♥♥♥♥♥♥...hard and often into the butt, but when you finally beat em for the first time you get a strange feeling, and you want more of it... you kill all the scrub bosses after s&o ( die 100 times at bedrock of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ because its a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bossfight) and then you are infront of em again in ng+ (probably died in sens fortress 100 times because lol gravelord) and you get the new challenge to beat em in a harder version.
Then you star a new character, because you found out that your build is complete garbage and then you reck the ♥♥♥♥ out of everything ( exeptions at pvp and bedrock of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥)
THE END

I don't know what's funnier the fact you never knew about it. Or that you never looked it up.

Jk

Here's a tidbit that may help:

Smough is weak to Lightning while Ornstein is weak to Fire. During the 2nd phase, I think both are weak to fire.

Making use of the Demon's Spear and Quelaag's Furysword with 10 humanity can make the fight more manageable.

If you need Humanity, I believe you can get the random liquid drop from the Painting Guardians. iirc, They're either in a zone technically assigned to one of the two optional bosses or they don't have a boss assigned. Either way, you can farm liquid humanity off them in a pinch.

Ohhh that makes sense. I dropped Smough with like one set of fire orbs and a few fire balls in phase one.

My first run through of Dark Souls took me two attempts. Its quite a simple boss in all honesty. I didn't have a shield since i had to two hand my BKGS, so I just used light rolling. All you have to do is back pedal until one attacks, dodge and get a hit in if possible, and repeat the process. As long as their both in your sight, it's quite difficult to take damage.
