R of Steel Protection of Wolf's Ring?
Hi,

i finally got enough END to get rid of the Havel Ring, which ring would be more suitable to wear? I wear the Thiefs Set for fast rolls so defense is needed as well as poise

Or without your Sunbro Solaire as a distraction for one of them while you dismantle the other unphazed... :D

50 physical seems way more than a armor would give me
Solaire seems to always bring them to me at the worst of times...

Also, 50 physical is not one of the best trade-offs for a ring slot. You're better off using chloranthy for the max stamina regen, or wolf ring when going through catacombs.

he didn't survive phase 2 though :D still a first try victory against BigOrnstein

atm i'm using the silver serpent for the extra Souls :D

So what I'm going to say right now will likely ruin the Smough and Ornstein fight for a few people, but when I first took them on I ended up just going at that brick wall over and over, losing my humanities, and eventually just started having a laugh at it, fully aware that I should probably go back, farm some souls and ores and upgrade my weapon further. On the try when I finally decided this will be the last I started throwing Dung Pies at Smough because why not, it's not like I was doing anything with them since I got them in Blighttown.
And that's when I found out you can just turn them Toxic and keep slowly backing away with a decent shield.
Gwynevere's praises didn't feel quite earned after that.

But yeah back on topic, I thought I already wrote this down, but to me personally Steel Protection is mostly for places where there's difficult to avoid physical damage, such as Sen's Fortress with its traps, and a select few enemies/bosses that do large area attacks.
Wolf Ring is more of a crowd control ring, if you have a weapon with good reach and swing, as you can clear out an enemy crowd even as they smack you.

But Havel's Ring is where it's at when it comes to Havel's, Wolf and Steel Protection. It only gets better as you level up and gain more Endurance, and if you plan on using light weapons and shield you might even be able to fast roll about in full Havel's set paired with Ring of F.A.P. You can use Havel's ring to replace the effects of the other two by simply getting better armor, and unlike the Ring of Steel Protection, you can reinforce said armor at a smith/bonfire.

I don't think it's ruined now as by now everybody will have found their own way to overcome these two after all :D After having played DS3 and coming back to DS1 (which felt increidbly hard at the first time) the only really hard fight i had was with Gwyn himself, as it was so fast. Yet it felt very much like Abyss Watchers which are a very early boss in DS3.... so i don't feel the people that say DS1 is the hardest :D it's the least comfortable one for sure (having to walk everything and only few smiths around)

i ended up using the silver serpent ring for extra souls and for said hard fight i used Hornet ring for the parries (that interstingly did either 700 or 1000 damage randomly o.O) and fire protection ring.

Yet the wolf ring felt more comfortable to me
