If you're about to start Daughters of Ash...
...then don't. It's not worth it. Author don't understand the basic From Software game-design, level design and lore rules.
PtDE - Every enemy should be possible to kill with melee weapon / DoA - F<ck you, I have flying boys.
PtDE - Anor Londo is city of Gods and Dragonslayers / DoA - F<CK YOU, IT'S CITY OF DRAGONS NOW, AND YEA, THEY FLY! (like, really dude? are you rеtarded?)
PtDE - Enemy placement is mostly logical/lore friendly with few exceptions that were pretty dumb / DoA - Oh look I have Ciaran at Nito bossfight, because it's well known fact that they were friends! (no, like absolutely f<cking not)
PtDE - Game can be completed in any build with pretty much same effort / DoA - Do what author wants from you or suffer.
PtDE - Whip and Candy - Do the hard thing, risk your souls - get your reward / DoA - You will either find titanite shards or some sorceries (or lightning/fire buffed trash shield or trash axe). But nothing good and rewarding.

And yea, I know this is mod, so I don't place it as one of the cons, but I warn you - It has bugs, some may even softlock your playthrough. Some allow you to reach max lvl covenant having only 1 "covenant item". Some will make enemies do strange thinks or not spawn at all.

But If you read it all, and think that you are fine with that, well, good luck then. I don't think that you will have fun with your playthrough, unless you are fan of masochism and lore-rаping tho.

This is just a friendly warning to those who love souls games for being that special "From Software" game, with deep lore and rewarding exploration, and not for those who think it's all about being rаped by imbalanced enemies.

Just chiming in to state that there are different opinions. Many people including me love this mod and really appreciate the work that was put into this. Doesn't hurt to try it and form your own opinion.

Sure, I appreciate the effort too. I see that he spent a lot of time doing this mod, and I know that this is not Skyrim - it's really hard to mod. But some decisions were either pretty bad or just had no sence (like replacing Dukes Archive bonfire or Andre) just change for the sake of change.

Not gonna read because spoilers, but I made it to (former) tombs of giants and I'm loving it so far.

Also the comment above me is true.
I don't really understand where you're getting at with the whole (you can't complete the game with just melee) since I'm at Four Kings, then onto Gywn and I've only used a Longsword and Claymore throughout my playthrough. Yes, you can use ranged in order to make certain zones easier, the drakes in Anor Londo are a pain in the ass unless you deal with them, but it's not impossible, just run past them and you're fine.

About Ciaran being in the Nito boss fight, I found quite interesting (maybe not so much as loreful) but still, I always enjoy boss fights with multiple enemies. Although adding Ciaran actually makes the fight easier in my opinion, as you can just parry her to death and the boss is down.

The Dukes Archives bonfire literally got moved to the adjacent room, just requiring you to kill a golem to get it. Not really a major inconveniance.

The only place I've had concerns with was the Painted World of Ariamas, as the hollows there do around 350+ damage a hit, which is ludicrous considering you're facing on average 3 at a time.

Personally I think DoA is great, certain aspects are much better than the vanilla game, such as Pinwheel not being a complete pushover anymore. Adding a golem to the Moonlight Butterfly boss fight so it's not a snoozefest anymore.
That's pretty dickish. You don't like the mod because it isn't lore-friendly and has some bugs. Fine. Don't play it. It's a pretty big and complex mod that doesn't cost money or require you to sacrifice your firstborn. No reason to tell people to basically boycott it.

Well, that's, like, your opinion bro. I respect your opinion but I completely disagree. I also remove 1000 points for using the "no true fan" argument.

I think this is a great mod. It mixes up the existing formula, encourages you to pursue different routes and different play styles - what's tried and tested won't necessarily work any more. It makes it a challenging and fresh experience. Cast your mind back to when Dark Souls first came out, all those years ago, and you would have heard the same cries of "why is it so hard? Why do I have to play the way the developers want me to?" etc. As soon as people "figure out" the mod, then a huge range of routes and playstyles will become possible, just like as for original Dark Souls.

There are some bugs and if you're worried about that, it might be worth waiting a little while for it to stabilise. The mod creator is really active and seems to be patching issues really quickly, so I doubt you'll have to wait long. And you shouldn't. This mod really feels like a breath of fresh air - new routes, new items, new bosses, new stories, new mysteries etc.

tl;dr it's a mod that's completely free to download and quick to setup. So just dive in and find out for yourself! :D

Hello, thank you for anwering nice, without dumb "I haven't read, but git gud casul" :)

Well the thing is I don't remember myself or my friends cry about "difficulty" or "play the way the developers want me to" because there is no such thing in PtDE except Four Kings that was 200% easier with magic if I'm not mistaking and the first meeting with Seath where you had to die. DS is skill based game after all and we all understood that (Demon Souls taught us that :D), I killed O&S naked in my first playthrough because it was possible and a lot easier than doing it in armor, so yea, mostly there is no such thing as "the way developer chose".

You see my complain is that the mod creator calls his mod "within and expanding lore of universe" but this is absolutely not true. I really pressed alt+f4 when I saw Giant guards staying afk while two dragons flying around, and I had to force myself to enter the game again and conitnue playthrough and make my opnion based on full game.

It just doesn't feel like DS anymore. Souls-like, yea, probably, but not DS. For me it's Lords of the Fallen or The Surge level, which is mediocore at best :/

I'm with you so far. I will give it a few more hours, maybe even finish a run. It started out strong, and at this point it just feels like god tier trash. There are legit a few enemies you can't even get to *cough* Anor Londo archer. It feels like DS2, and we all know that game is pure junk

Just made it past the archers first try, it was arguably easier than with the original enemy placement, and I don't see what's wrong with enemies you can't reach. Just think of them as environmental hazards. The mod is far from being trash, the only thing that are trash here are our opinions... yours, mine, everyone's.
Maka-61 Jan 8, 2019 @ 5:33pm
you know that feeling where you come to place and see; a fogbank, was never there in ptde, and jump into a bossfight was never there? holly mommy. im miss that feleing (after 1361 hrs of playing). you start with this mod by 0, and im love it to play, nobody says you muss play this mod, if you dont like it, dont play it and dont waste my time with you mad/rage post.

Where is the f... thumbs up button'?

I never said that the Archer part was hard, just dumb af like the flying drakes you can't kill if you are a pure meele character.
Anyway, I did stop playing it and instead just watched the rest of the run on Youtube. Very few nice ideas with pure fanfic edge moments, but overall a waste of my time. If I want something hard, I would play something with a good combat system that is fun, like the Ninja Gaiden trilogy or Nioh. This mod has some god tier bs in it because there is zero game design to be found.
StreamWhenGuy Jan 9, 2019 @ 9:43am
The mod itself is lame imo, yeah yeah I appreciate all of those 40k lines of code (I don't care).
But hey it's also like playing a different game, kinda, and it's free so... I was pumped at the beginning though and wasn't sure whether I should continue watching lobos playing it or just try it out myself. I chose the first option and am glad I did that. Already bored and overall unsatisfied.
