If you're looking for a pure magic build, you have essentially 5 options:
Option 1--get minimum strength/dexterity to wield a weapon you like, and take it up the Enchanted path. You can do this relatively early in the game.
Option 2--get minimum stats for a weapon you like, and take it up the raw and eventually normal +15 paths and buff it with the Magic Weapons spells. If your build allows for it you can eventually swap out to the Obsidian Greatsword, which can be buffed, doesn't have scaling, has decent damage when fully upgraded, and has relatively low requirements, but isn't accessible until late-game.
Option 3--get minimum stats to wield a weapon you like and take it up either the Lightning or Chaos paths. Basically the same as using an Enchanted weapon except its power is now wholly dependent upon upgrade level and ignores stat scaling.
Option 4--grab either the Moonlight Butterfly Horn or Moonlight Greatsword. Or both. Pure magic damage with decent scaling and movesets, but not accessible until mid/late-game.
Option 5--grab Velka's Rapier. Split magic and physical, but primarily magic with low dex requirement and perfectly acceptable as thrusting swords go. Not accessible until mid-game.
