What mods should I get to make the game better?
I was planning on getting the remaster but from what I'm hearing, unless you just really want to add another Souls game to your library or don't already have the original, you're better off just modding DS1. What mods are recommended that make the game better? I would assume DSFix, I'm not sure what exactly that one covers though. Others that improve graphics? And multiplayer? Thank you!

This is one of the price(non-monetory) to pay for not getting the latest updates.

DSFix is a must-have mod. For online-play use PVPWatchdog and DSCM. PVPWatchdog is an anti-cheat and DSCM improves online matchmaking.

ofc you can run mods and it will look/run better with but
after trying dsr (it´s ♥♥♥♥) i reinstalled ds ptde and currently playing it again without any mods
not sure if they patched some stuff but my game runs smooth even in blighttown and new londo (i had 2 slowdown for about 1.5-2 secs when entering the swamp in blighttown but no other slowdowns)
i also can pick 1920 x 1080 x32
the grafics are a bit "chunky" (kinda looks like skyrim) after a few min of playing i don´t notice it anymore
but so far i don´t see the need for dsfix
the only bug i saw till now (after o&s) is when you kill the first rat in the tunnel to undead burg with magic it falls through the ground
beside that it runs perfectly even coop when you get summoned or pvp (forrest)
just my thoughts on all the posts saying you NEED dsfix (not saying it´s ♥♥♥♥, it is realy good)

It's true that you don't "need" dsfix, without it the game works perfectly fine and you'd get the same exact experience as you'd get on PS3... but why limit yourself when you're playing on PC?

About this... the game's default 1080p resolution is not a real 1080p, it is actually an upscaled 720p or something slightly lower, basically the rendering resolution remains the same no matter what you pick. You'll notice the difference if you compare a vanilla 1080p screenshot with a dsfix enhanced 1080p screenshot.

If you mean texture mods, they rely on dsfix's texture override feature, so yes, you need dsfix for them to work

When you're done with the game you can use the Item Randomizer to freshen thing up a little bit. Although it really does get out of control when Petrus sells Xanthous Leggings for 1000000 souls (literally)

there is a mod which changes all enemys (random enemys) so that instead of your hollows in undead burg you could have some bosses standing there or dark wraith and instead of bosses you could go through the bossgate and just have a rat standing there ^^
i think i´m gonna do that when i finished ng3+

I never had any problems with DSFix. Even the 60FPS unlock works flawlessly. I have 60FPS in every region. Exept the 60FPS glitches and jumping doesn't work as intended anymore, but if you know, where the glitched ladders are, it doesn't matter. And before jumping somewhere, just hit backspace and it's working again.
I don't know, why you would want to play without DSFix. It's still vanilla Dark Souls, if you don't use texture override. With it installed, the game just looks way more detailed, because of the fixed rendering and you have access to the implemented shader-mods, which are a big graphics-improvement without changing the atmosphere.

Well this thread blew up while I was asleep! I went ahead and already installed DSFix, and the DSCM even though I don't really plan to use humanity or coop, i might in a future playthough wth a friend. I like the idea of that enemy randomizer, that sounds really interesting! I'm gonna have to try that on a NG+ run!

Just don't cap your framerate past 30FPS, as if you use DSFix it creates problems with the games' physics past 35FPS. Get ready to fall through ladders a lot.
