Dissecting Peeve's & Oroboro's PvP Tips

Recently a couple of articles have come out where Oroboro and Peeve Peeverson are giving PvP tips. I've felt compelled to weigh in on this since some of the information is out of date or straight up incorrect.

Starting with Oroboro's tips from the following article:

"The soul level meta for PvP is level 120-125"

This is not an absolute fact. The meta is closer to 125-135.

"a great starting build is warrior with 50 vitality, 40 endurance, 40 strength and 40 dexterity."

This is a waste of stats. For quality it's far better to opt with 40 dex, 27 str. Or 45 dex, 27 str if you want to use great combustion/black flame. The faster cast speed is worth it.

"The main breakpoints you should try to reach are 21, 31, and 56 respectively."

The minimum poise you should have is 31. Being able to tank a 2H katana R1 is very important considering how prominent the Chaos Blade is in the meta. Anything below 31 is asking for trouble.

"you need to make sure you have your equip weight below 25% so you can fast roll."

No you don't. Midroll is in fact exceptionally strong. Most of the tournaments of late have been won with a midroll murakumo build.

They can also be bought from Marvelous chester.

Now onto Peeve's tips:

"To counter this, while locked-on to your opponent allow your character to stand up on its own before moving."

Do not lock on. Locking on will get you chained. Good options to avoid getting chain backstabbed are:

Standstill. Literally doing nothing whilst waking up. Whatever you do, do not lock on! If performed correctly your opponent will end up missing the backstab.

Lock on as soon as you can during the backstab animation, hold down or right on the analog stick and spam roll. You will do a backroll or a barrel roll respectively.

That's all really. Peeve's tips were far more useful/accurate in my opinion than Oroboro's.

As far as I can tell, Peeve and Oro are ancient history when it comes to ds1 pvp. Totally out of the loop, haven't uploaded on it for years. Figures their advice is kinda wacky, but it's fine for the kinda casual, non-backstab, non-meta pvp that you see more of around sl100-120.


I mean, to have half a chance at meta pvp without hundreds of hours of practice, the only real option is to use spell cheese or meta-weapon r1 spam. The upbeat articles aren't going to admit this though.

Well, the word "hater" exists for a reason. I think Oro made some fun content but he's not "skilled". He's slightly above average imo.

I don't have a particular opinion on Peeve. Never watched the guy.

I double this. Oro can be fun to watch if you dont get butthurt over his "fighting style". His autistic screeches are hilarious. I dont comment on how good he is, because Im kinda on the low side of the average players so I cant really say anything about him. He seems upper average tho.
Peeve is not that fun to watch imo. But he seemed lower-end pro to me.

They didn't give any bad tips at all. Are they the best, in terms of min/max? Nah, but not everyone plays like that, so try not to think too hard about what they are saying.

Nah- Just as always. It's just that I genuinely hate that part of the community. People that takes the game so seriously that think they are gods because they are good at the game. For me in the end this game is no different than Super Mario World, in the end is just a game.
