No matter what i do, dark souls WILL NOT launch - NEED HELP
will not run. i launch the game and it sits on a black screen, and once i click off the game crashes saying ''not responding''. i have to kill it via task manager.

i've tried literally everything...

-uninstall + reinstall
-deleting dsfix + installing dsfix
-messing with height/width settings in both .ini files. (dsfix .ini and in the NBGI folder)
-verifying integrity of game files
-unplugging controller
-disabling cloud sync
-running in compatibility mode... ive tried, win 8, 7, and vista sp2
-moving from my ssd to my hdd... vice versa
-deleting all save files/registry files known to dsptde
-opted out of dpstde 2.0
-reinstalled directx via REDIST folder

literally everything, and i still cannot get it to run....

specs:

win10

i7-6800k
32gb ddr4
asus x99 a-ii
evga gtx 1080ti (397.64 drivers)

worse comes to worse, DSM comes out in 4 days. would like to get a quick playthrough in though before DSM

EDIT: I cant even launch the game after a fresh install. I also cant launch the game after installing DSfix

no, i have a 2560x1440 monitor and my main monitor is 1920x1080 @ 144hz (ive ran it on this monitor/pc settings many times before)

Also when running it, do you install DSFix before you run the game the first time? There are in game options that need to be adjusted before you should add DSFix.

kind of common sense. let alone, you can't run it as administrator since launching it through the .exe requires the steam boostrapper (aka it wont run without launching it through steam)

i just did that anyway in preperation for remaster.

i mean im not going to reinstall windows for just 1 game that doesnt work. it probably would fix, but i think this is a windows 10 issue that i cannot resolve.

Dude, I so wanna help you since I had a simular problem about a year ago when I built me a new PC. I cant for the life of me remember what I did to fix it though.
Try doing a manual windows update to see if your pc is missing any windows 10 updates.

As if everyone has knowledge of it? I came in with the impression that you just did what you've read you should do and only offered friendly advice, but I'm met with a snarky remark.

I have the same Issue also. Its always worked for me. I noticed it did a first time setup and did something with gfwl which confused me. I don't even know what they did.

Sounds like you messed with resolution in DSfiX .. Delete all files and re-install. Then adhere to the instructions for DSfix correctly. A simple "human error". Happens to the best of us..You have to turn off AntiAliasing in game before you manipulate the files with DSfix . Thats usually the cause.

I can remember that when I formatted my machine for a fresh windows installation I also had a black screen upon first running the game. but after 5 minutes of waiting the game prompted me with the title screen and I could continue.

If you see in your own list of things you tried to get it running I could imagine there is some things left over from previous attempts. Try to clean-up your windows registry?

Also in my machine it seems to be CRITICAL that you do not click with your mouse when the game loads up it's first window, if I do that my machine won't refresh the screen and you're stuck with nothing to see. And you don't hear game sounds either then. (but the game is running)

On a last note, try to get the game to run without any mods. (that means get it to load to the main menu, not actually playing it.)

Once you get to see the main menu, go to options and disable the settings at the bottom so they both are OFF. Then quit out and download the latest DSFIX and install that correctly.
