Destroyed in Duke's Archive

After defeating Ornstein and Smough, I decided to go after Seath the Scaleless first for the cool Moonlight Greatsword. After arriving over there, I went up the elevator and was absolutely destroyed by the enemies and doing about 70 damage to them. I was wondering if anything was wrong with my build, and if anyone could help. Also, its my first souls game so if I'm crap, that's why :P.

Class: Sorcerer

Stats:
Level: 51
Vitality: 14
Attunement: 16
Endurance: 15
Strength: 21
Dexterity: 17
Resistance: 8
Intelligence: 31
Faith: 8

Weapons: I have a Magic Claymore +5 and and Magic Gargoyle Halberd +3
Shield: Grass Crest Shield
Armor: I use the Black Iron Set (not upgraded)
Rings: Ring of Favor and Protection and Leo Ring

The spells I have are 4: Soul Arrow (30), Heavy Soul Arrow (12), Great Soul Arrow (20), and Great Magic Weapon (3). I haven't really occupied myself with sorcery actually, I haven't rescued Big Hat Logan even though I have the key (I just hate Sen's fortress so much).

You are dealing that amount of damage because of the split damage of your weapons, the crystal mobs are resistant to physical attacks. Pure magic damage should do the trick try leveling up INT more and for max damage the dragoncest ring is really helpful.

id say try to boost for a plus 15 phys weapon, plus 15 zweilhander uasally does the trick in ng

Most (possibly all) enemies in dukes archives are resistant to magic, just use a weapon that doesn't deal split damage.

Alright, thanks. I'm going to go get the Zweihander then and upgrade it. I wanted to ask, is there any cool boss soul weapon that I can aim for that's good for pve?

Well, the butterfly horn thingy is somewhat useful for sorcerers.

besides what other people have said, try switching out the leo ring, it's not that effective, generally

The tentacle things at the prison give you a lot of souls. You can also easily get their overkill bonus with soul spears.
