I have a Lore question about seath the scaleless
In one of the items it says "granting him immortality and making him a true undead." I read it 20x now and I can't figure it out, it's probably something really simple and I am just being DURP, but.. He became TRUE undead by becoming insane? And what makes him a TRUE undead?

I just dont get what they mean with TRUE UNDEAD..

Humans that become Undead can be killed, they just revive after death. This process wears away their humanity until, totally bereft of humanity, they become Hollow. At this point, dying is permanent.

Seath, with the Crystal intact, is fully immortal--he can't be hurt, can't be killed. True Undead. (Him being insane is a parallel of going Hollow, but has nothing to do with Hollowing or his immortality--just a result of learning too much, a concept Miyazaki returned to rather heavy-handedly in Bloodborne)

Yes, what AnKalameet said.

Also check out the description of White Dragon Breath:

"Although it no longer causes curses, what madness caused old Big Hat to appropriate this frightful power of the ancient dragons?"

I conclude (and anyone feel free to correct me) that the enhanced study of magic contributes to going insane; I am almost positive that Big Hat Logan is the only character to go insane whilst still human. He never goes hollow.

Solaire similarly goes insane without hollowing, due to the Sunlight Maggot's influence. They're both special cases though.

Thank you very much, kind sir! I oculd not figure itout for the life of me. But this is pretty much perfectly explained. Now I can continue living and put my mind to easy thanks to you! Haha.

This is quite insightful! Thanks that makes sense. Lore of dark souls is so fun!

what evidence do we have that being killed while hollow is permanent?

reading a bit I have:

evidence for:
- there are dead bodies containing "souls of a lost undead", etc.
- when you kill hollowed NPCs (including at least one boss) they don't come back, and may break lore if they did

evidence against:
- non-hollow NPCs similarly never come back if you kill them (so then it's just a game mechanic to prevent you from killing them more than once)
- hollow mobs always come back no matter how many times you kill them (in DS1 anyway)

You totally forgot to factor in how time is convoluted, and how fire keepers and bonfires attribute to this curse.
