Is the game worth it on PC?
Considering that I had to refund ESO, I got some money to spend. So I was wondering if the first Dark Souls is worth it on PC.

I'm not a new fan of the series, played every one except for Demon Souls, I'm just craving some more of the first game. But is it worth it? As in, does it run well? Will I be forced to use a controller like I was on the second? And more importantly, is it dead?

Thanks.

Out of the box, Dark Souls 1 doesn't run that well, since it was ported to PC by an inexperienced team. However, there are a number of fixes made to counter the bad port. It involves 5-10 minutes of your time and makes the game run alot better.
This guide explains what you need to do:

Some additional info. wulf2k.ca is down for the moment, so this is where you can get DSCM (mentioned in the guide): https://www.nexusmods.com/darksouls/mods/1047/?
There are also some other texture mods on the nexus to improve your game's looks.
I use these:

https://www.nexusmods.com/darksouls/mods/40/?
https://www.nexusmods.com/darksouls/mods/840/?

I, myself, use only keyboard and mouse. Some guys here even only play keyboard.
It's not dead, plenty of people still play it.

That was the exact comment I was looking for, thank you, friend. I pray you never go hollow. :)

With mods you can get it running (and looking) pretty good. You don't have to use a controller (there is a mod to get the mouse + keyboard working properly), but it's recommended.

For me I prefer to use controller but K&M is viable. Even the normal K controls can be viable if you ajust them.

Depends. Imho this gmae is not worth anywhere. But if you want to try overhyped buggy piece of crap with poor controls, lack of story and majority of bugs and poor gameplay being reffered as "hard difficulty" go ahead and try it.

I beat it without DSFIX and thought it was fine.

Looks like someone can't beat the 4 kings!

It may be worth noting that I have finished this game with M&K and I had no issues with it other than switching targets, which was easy to get around

Yes, just make sure you get the DSfix mod to help the game run better. It's very easy to set up if you go to the nexus mod page.

I looked at your recent review. 150hours is quite a long time spent on a game only to end up saying you didn't enjoy it, don't ya' think? You could've gotten the same opinion just from the first three bosses with enough time saved to refund the game, but I suppose that option's more gone now than Gwyn was after lighting the First Flame. While I can't hold it against you for being mad at some few bugs and glitches (or can I, considering there's a popular mod that fixes most of them, for free), it's not our fault you can't see the beauty in the Soulsborne series or atleast recognize and respect it like the good lot of people who aren't into the games do. You have a negative review on the game, that's all fair but you have no right to come here when I'm asking for advice and undermine it, as you're only making yourself look like a fool by complaining like a child.

150 hours, still hasnt beat the game yet lol

It took me about 90hours to finish the game when I had it on my Xbox 360 and that was me trying to be slow. I could not, in any way, think of what he could be doing other then going AFK to reach that amount without finishing it. He complains about grinding for souls, the game being buggy and the difficulty being so easy, yet he has hours adding up to a worth of around two playthroughs in just the first NG cycle.

I get it if you don't enjoy the games, as not every game is suited to every gamer's preference. But it's just stupid that he complains about this and that, yet his play time of it suggests otherwise. Oh well. I know better than to argue with a troll, just ignore him. :)

Some people just can't see the beauty of these games sadly...They die and die fail and fail then die to experienced players that are twinks (experienced players staying at low levels but using end game level equipment to either help to kill newbies) and say the game is buggy and glitchy because they were too lazy to download one program. I think the problem with new games these days is that they hold your hand throughout the story. Egoraptor explains it actually quite well in his Sequalitis video between mega man classic and mega man X. Gamers these days don't get challenge. They just get remakes and remasters of older video games. This game (much like mega man) teaches the player through enemy placement and level design. And sadly since gamers these days can have there games as easy as they want. Having a game with a large lurning curve like Dark Souls is not going to stick well with many newcomers. In my opinion. If you don't like it you don't like it. But don't ever try to make your opinion when you can't even beat the game on your own. As a player that's beaten this game many times (too the point where I just want to do challenge runs) I've learned so much about this one game. And I intend to do the same for the other two when I get around to it.
