Bypassing the sealed door in Darkroot Garden?
So after beating the Hydra in Darkroot Basin, I trekked around the lake to find and rescue Dusk of Oolacile. Along the way, I found a set of ladders that led up to Darkroot Garden.

I didn't explore the area too much because I was itching to move on with the main story, but looking at a map on the wiki, it seems like these ladders take you to the portion of the Garden behind the sealed door near the Garden's bonfire. Does this mean you can access that area and fight Sif without having to purchase the Crest of Artorias?

yes you dont need the crest but the hidden bonfire next to the door is very useful if you open the door

yes, but is hard kill the Cats in your way, problably you will die and lose your souls.

the cats are there either way. you just have to take the long way around if you wanna avoid them without opening the door.

That's a helluva trek back if you die. I would sooner just spend the 20k since there is a bonfire right next to the door.

You cannot fight Sif without the Crest, but you can access the area just before him.

Wait, really? I've seen a couple comments on the wiki and other sites suggesting that you can still fight him by going up the ladder.

Regardless, it sounds like it would be a better idea to just farm for souls and purchase the Crest, so that's what I'll do. Thanks for the tips, everyone.

There is another glowing door in front of Sif, honestly I've never tried to fight him without the crest but you do use the same animation to open both doors as I actually went there on a new char just a few days ago.

God just buy the crest! I cant understand why not? its not hard to make said amount of souls!
