In what order should you clear the areas?
I am currently facing Seath, but today I learned that if I didn't speak to Frampt and put down the lordvessel, I could have met his evil twin and join the darkwraith convenant.

That makes me think that i should have cleared the ghost area first before beating skinny and fatty in Anor Londo.

Did I do the order wrong?

I played like this so far:

Asylum,
Firelink,
Undead Burg,
Undead Parish,
The Garden (Killed butterfly)
Then killed Hydra,
Lower Undead Burg,
Depths,
Blightown
Killed Quellag
Killed Ceaseless
Senns Fortress
Anor Londo
Asylum (returning)
Painted World
Killed Sif
Dukes Archives
Crystal cave

Im now facing Seath.

After this i was going to go to ghost area then maybe cemetery.

Did i do the order wrong?

There is no wrong order, if you can get to an area boss and beat it, that's enough.

That. There is a ''recomended'' order for the beginning, and you did it that way. After that it doesn't matter.

Basically, if you want to meet Frampt evil twin brother, the route changes as soon as you get the Lordvessel... instead of talking to Frampt, you need to go to New Londo and kill the Four Kings. (you need to kill Sif to get the Crest of Artorias first ofc.)

Used spoilers just in case, since I'm not sure if spoilers are allowed :P And I'm too lazy to check the rules :D

You can technically fight the Four Kings before even getting to Anor Londo by killing Ingward and getting the key to the Seal that way... you'd still need the Crest of Artorias though, to be able to walt in the Abyss.

EDIT: Oops. Forgot spoilers tags on the second part :P

The world of Dark Souls is designed to be firm but fluid. It is open so that the player is the one who determines the progression of the world. For your first play through, complete the areas in whichever order takes your whim (likely the easiest, or most natural route). But, in reality, Dark Souls is just a world where progress is made in whatsoever fashion you move it.

That being said, the 'first play through' or "path of least resistance" route has been analysed and quite clearly distinguished over the years. I think IGN Walkthroughs has that route, and no doubt the list of areas is available ubiquitously. However, I recommend staying away from it. Play Dark Souls how you want - that's what keeps you interested in it.

TL;DR: There is no correct order to play the areas, only the one that works for you in terms of enjoyment and making progress in the game world. Have fun ;)

I saw the IGN suggestion and i found it really weird how they siggested you go to blighttown first before you go to the gardens (as you can get the moss here to help you in blighttown). So i disregarded it and hence came here.

That's true. I guess i just want a certain order instead of learning it's all open and up to you. Game doesnt hold your hand

a reason for playing blind is to avoid knowledge of these alternatives at first - you don't feel like losing anything but if you liked it and continue playing after 1st playthrough it's very cool to discover these then. Or read about them.

it's impossible to get everything on 1st try anyway

I know a bit because i played last year and quit at Kalameet. Now i'm trying again.

It took me 15 months to finally play he game again. Never uninstalled it. Now i hope to finish it this time...

Count to sixty :D
The first time I beat Kalameet it probably took nearly that many tries. But I say sixty because I counted my attempts to defeat Kalameet on my Soul Level 1 run and it took between 58 and 61 tries until I succeeded. That was with nothing but a Bandit Axe though XD so I'm sure you'll get him down in fewer tries. The DLC also contains far more challenging enemies than the rest of the game. I've told my friends to do the game right up until facing the final boss before starting the DLC. Kalameet is no doubt the hardest boss in the game (in comparison, Ornstein and Smough are likely the hardest boss in proportion to gear and skill at the time of facing them).

Hey, I quit my first Dark Souls play through when I was stuck on the Undead Parish black knight and metal boar ;) It took me 300 hours of Skyrim before getting back to it, not having uninstalled Dark Souls for I dunno O.o about a year as well I think. You're doing better than me :D:D

lol GL, HF!

I never fought Kalameet until 3rd playthrough cause I didn't know about DLC...happens when you're a blind-playin casul, I started to look up things cause I wondered about weapons/spells I saw @pvp...Oolacile didn't feel too hard by then
Alex Helders Aug 28, 2017 @ 7:13am
I quit in July 2016. I got back into dark souls last month. See, if only i knew that i should started DLC before the final boss, maybe i never would have quit. That's why i mention about the area order. If only i knew.

After Seath i'm going to go to ghost place then cemetary, then i want to go to the hallow tree, lake, then ill go to lava place (never got to this part in my forst playthrough so itll all be new).

Hope this is a good order

Just a guess on the reason for the bolded part: it's probably because Gardens is/was a PvP hotspot (if you go too deep in it at least) and it's probably better to get there when you have a weapon upgraded past +5 (so you're not *that* outmatched for the invasions that happens in there.)

And going to blighttown first guarantees that you'll get the Ember for getting a better upgraded weapon by the point you reach the Gardens proper (where you had a great chance of getting invaded if you play online and as human there.)

If you've placed down the lordvessel before talking to Frampt or Kaath (by jumping down the hole), they won't talk to you. If you're on pc (which you probably are if you have Steam), killing the seal holder is not a good way to go about it. Just go get the lordvessel and immediately to him so you can fight the 4 Kings.
Grim Reaper Aug 28, 2017 @ 10:29am
i reccomend going to izalith next as you can get through the are fast without any opposition other then the easy bosses, the bed of chaos at the end is just as hard at any level as if you were to do a level 1 run, then you get a divine weapon and go to the catacombs the boss is a joke and nito isnt that hard either however you should get leveled up a bit for the skeletons that fight alongside nito, but by having a divine weapon you can kill them and they will stay dead, nito himself is slow and you can avoid his attack by hugging him or strafing a little just watch out for the aoe, then new londo since the area is hard and not as skipable and during the boss you will need hp, defense and damage so you can just attack 1 of the four kings quickly before the other ones come in.

I thought izalith was end of the game so i left it. Is bed of chaos the soul you need for vessel?

Frampt should have told you (and you can ask him again I think) you need 4 powerful souls to satiate the Lordvessel
