Forgot to join Shiva's covenant in forest, if I defeat boss in Blighttown, can I still get him as a vendor?

Hey all,

I'm playing through the PTDE for the first time. I just got the Bonfire where Shiva of the East is supposed to spawn, but I didn't join his covenant in Dark Moon Forest (DMF) prior to coming here.

Can I continue to defeat the Chaos Witch, go join the covenant, then come back and have Shiva and the guard be there? Or do I need to join the covenant, then defeat the boss? :/

You have to join the forrest hunters, then talk to Shiva, then go to the base of the Blighttown to Valley of the Drakes path (revolving elevator). It does not matter when, as long as you are in the forest hunters and both Shiva and the ninja are alive. If you only want their doops and not what Shiva sells, you can just kill them in the forrest.

You can only access Shiva as a merchant if you join the Forest Hunters, at which point he and his bodyguard spawn at the base of the dog-wheel elevator in Blighttown. What I usually do is join the covenant, buy all the items he sells at Blighttown, then lure the Cragspider near the ninja to him to get the Dark Wood Grain ring easily. Shiva's pretty easy to defeat after he aggros, so it's a win-win after you request absolution from Oswald to rejoin the Hunters.

My plan exactly. Question though, if the Craigspider kills the ninja, will Shiva still be mad at me?
