You gotta level up adaptibility to improve rolling in Dark Souls 2, I believe you need agility of 105 points to be completely "invincible" during the rolling animation.
there is/were actually
you need to increase the agility stat (by increasing adaptability and/or attunement) for some "decent" i-frames in DS2
and they are/were applied to the start of the roll rather than the entire thing
as for all three games, you just need to time it properly
In Dark Souls 2 there's the Adaptability stat, leveling that up raises agility which in turn gives you more i-frames during rolls (and backsteps.)
DS2 is the only game that has an i-frame stat, and nobody liked it.
It only has them for 9 frames during recovery. Afaik there's none during the roll itself. I could be wrong though.

Also back step has some i frames in dks1.
From worst to best:
+ If your weight is over 100%, you cannot roll at all. If you try, you'll just flail around.
+ If you're between 50% and 100%, you'll do a flop that's more commonly known as a "fat roll". It has the least amount of i-frames of all rolls.
+ If you're between 25% and 50%, you'll do a more-or-less normal roll. Known as the "mid roll", this has the 2nd best amount of i-frames.
+ If you're below 25%, you'll do a dive-and-roll known as a "fast roll". The fast roll has the same amount of i-frames as a mid roll, but the animation ends quicker so you spend less time in recovery.
+ If you're below 25% and have the Dark Wood Grain Ring equipped, the fast roll changes to a series of handsprings and cartwheels known as "ninja flips". Ninja-flipping has more i-frames and less recovery frames than the fast roll (the i-frames last almost the whole animation), but the weight requirements mean you more than likely won't have particularly protective gear on plus it also takes up a ring slot.
