DARK SOULS™: Prepare To Die Edition

Lore question: The hollowing of Laurentius of the Great Swamp
Does anyone know why does he turn hollow after visiting Blighttown? I have no idea what happens there. I thought he would just find Quelana advance greatly as a pyromancer but that ain't happening.

That guy got caught in a barell in the depths. What are the chances of him surviving blighttown?

LOL! That's so fckn true! Thanks alot! I guess some undeads just aren't able to do anything but sitting and doing nothing.
He goes down there to learn new pyromancies from Quelana, however when you meet her she seems surprised by the fact that you can see her. This would lead me to believe that Laurentius could never find her, and he realizes that his own pyromancy, and by extension himself and his soul, is weak.

In order to see Quelana, you have to have a pyromancy flame upgraded to atleast +10(I believe). Laurentius can upgrade it to +15 so his own pyromancy flame must be atleast +15, thus he can easily see Quelana.
Not necessarily. Maybe we were always more capable than Laurentius. Or maybe he wasn't interested in power.
When you learn Chaos pyromancy, he asks you when you have found it. Then you have an option of telling him or not: if you answer yes, he goes down to Blighttown and turns hollow.

You only need souls to strengthen pyromancy. Laurentius is simply putting the souls you give him into the pyromancy flame he gave you. He would just need to know how to attune the souls to the flame, the strength of his own flame doesn't matter.

The fact that souls are used to level pyromancy also tells us that we more capable to strengthen the flame to begin with, since we rescue him in the Depths. We killed the enemies that captured him and took their souls.

I read that when someone poked through the game's files, they found that Laurentius's flame is only +8.
